newb excited for '10

so i first heard about burning man threw my uncle. i only gained a glimmer of what it meant. then i moved up to oregon/portland area. i feel like i have found home. and it has resparked the want to truely understand burning man.

looked up what i could online, found some videos on youtube. and obviously found this site threw my uncle.

i have two other friend that will be definitely coming if i do. i would love to engulf myself as much as possible and am interested in joining a theme camp or some people looking to take on the newbies. we are creative people and love to act or "be apart of the art"

oh yeah the important part, a blip about me
right now i work two jobs, noodles at one and making pizzas on weekends. i love ceramics and having been throwing on the wheel for sixish years. i love my boyfriend of two years, and roommate zoe, my "twin sister". other than that i'm a plain, simple, easy going girl. don't do well with the plastic people but otherwise usually plays well with others, once i come out of my shell. little prodding is required.

if you've gotten here maybe you have some information to share please leave me a note would love to hear them

Read the survival guide and the first timer's guide.
There are many burners in Portland, check out the regionals for Oregon, make local burner friends.
You've got plenty of time to find a project/theme camp from your area to help build.

A potter could make fine contributions to the community.
I thought immediatly of small oil burner lamps, the ancient kind like a small bowl with a pinched spout for the wick. That way bacon fat could be used for lighting or warmth. Some ancient lamps had two or three pinches on the edge to hold several wicks for more light. Some had 3 holes punched through the edge lip to hang up. Lamps enabled craftspersons to work longer hours and aid the development of civilization. Metropolis could not exist without artists, including potters and pasta/pizza makers.

Burn it! Burn it all! heh,heh,heh

I use an open flame natural gas heater and kerosine lamps in my house. I use a butane burner and candles on playa. Never leave an open flame or campfire unattended, I agree. I also agree flames should never enter a tent. A circular plow disk makes a fine firebase if lifted off the playa with bricks.

I think I'll get some clay and make some coil-method bowls and bake them in the desert sun this year, burner bowls. Maybe star patterns etched on the sides, with X's for 2010.
