Hello everyone

Post by theebanana » Sun Dec 27, 2009 8:36 pm

Just saying hi to everyone out there and introducing myself as a burning man virgin :-)

I recently moved to the bay area (mid-peninsula region) and have never been to burning man but am planning to do so in 2010. I've been a firespinner for about 4-5 years now (off and on) and would love to meet some people from the area to spin with (Indiana, lets just say .... doesn't really have a poi community). I'd also like to offer my time to anyone that needs assistance in building fire art (I have basic machine shop / welding skills).

Looking forward to many great conversations.

See ya,

Welcome.

How do you start fire spinning without going to burning man?

gyre, good question!

Yep, that does sound a bit odd doesn't it. Quite a while ago I took a trip to cancun and saw a fire spinner at a club ... at that moment I said "Thats wicked". So, being from a town with very little to do (we pretty much just have cornfields in Indiana) I started to teach myself, with the help/support of homeofpoi.com. So for a few years me and a friend would just spin glowsticks .... then of course ... I moved on to fire. :-)

hahaha...same thing here, was living in Sacramento, a friend(who yes, was a burner) spun poi, I thought, thats bitchen cool, and he taught me how to spin glowies first. Then I moved to Reno and joined Controlled Burn and THEN....the rest is history!

nah, kidding... I actually spun fire for almost 2 whole yrs before going to BM!

2 yrs w/ glow then 2 yrs with fire...then BM!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Northbay Spin Jam

Post by Ziptye » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:01 am

There's the Vulcan crew who does "Spinagouge" every now and then, there's "Temple Of Poi" in SF with ISA who helped me meet a bunch of spinners and got me going on fire. There is a class in Berekeley every week for Staff taught by one of the Vulcan crew members and is a great place to meet fellow spinners.
There's now the North Bay Spin Jam that happens every week in Petaluma and I believe there is still a weekly Fire Jam in Golden Gate Park every Tuesday Night at dusk.
I went to BM for the first time last year and am hooked for life. Started spinning fire just over a month ago and am actually performing on NYE. Cant wait!!!
Anyways if you use Facebook I can hook you up with plenty of folks from the bay area.
Sam Drogin (look me up)
Peace and prosperity,
