Talk about poor timing?
What's the big thing on the news the last couple days - Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab and his botched attempt to take out Flight 253. Increased security at all the airports. Yesterday I received an email notifying myself and 15 others that due to personnel changes, as of Jan 1, 2010 our services are no longer needed. What are the services that we provided for free since we were volunteers? Aviation security at the local airport.

it's kind of interesting, how, so many who think government, should protect us from everything:
ie:
helmet laws, seatbelt laws, smoking laws......I'm sure there are many examples......
are bitching about how long it takes to go through the airport, and, how it's not ok to profile, so, instead, they waste time patting a grandma down........

Based on this mornings news, looks like we'll get full body scans in May when we are in Amsterdam.World Power Foundation wrote:Greetings, citizen!

Terrorists aren't idiots. If grandmas weren't getting patted down and everyone else was, they'd find convincing grandmas and use them as suicide bombers.ygmir wrote: so, instead, they waste time patting a grandma down........
I think TSA does a lot of foolish things, but that's not something that really sticks out for me. And I don't think a Nigerian national looks much like the original 19 hijackers.

Um. I'm not so sure about that. When I went to Roanoke in 08, I got a special patdown and some sort of wacky thing where they used what looked like a stridex pad to wipe off part of my chair. I assume that that was a chemical test for explosives. If I'm correct, then you'd have to know what chemicals they are testing for and then use different ones in your devise or you'd have to put together your bomb in a room with out the wheelchair and then put it in the wheelchair without trace chemicals contaminating the chair surface. And I wasn't allowed to bring it into the cabin, just to the door and it was then whisked away to travel in the hold, so they may have had the opportunity to double check.oneeyeddick wrote:I am suprised that they still let mechanical wheelchairs on airplanes at this point...talk about real easy to hide a bomb in.

yeah, good points...In Denver, they have a booth you go into(THICK glass), and air is blasted all round you, and they check for elements in the air somehow, before letting your bomb-toting underwear and wheelchair out.

Still involved in a couple other things with the WCSO, all volunteer, so I still have my ID. It was the RTAA that withdrew from the partnership with WCSO.LostinReno wrote:You just liked that cool looking sheriffs department card!Did ya get to keep it?

Line up all the successful terrorists, show me their faces and names. I am convinced that we would see a pattern.theCryptofishist wrote:Terrorists aren't idiots. If terrorists were idiots, they would be doing suicide attacks. Oh, they are. Forget I said that.
The reason TSA pats down grandma is the same reason that the people at Safeway ask you if need help to the car, even if you've been toting your basket around the store for half an hour. Discrimination and profiling.
But profiling works. People are generally stupid and follow a pattern.
