I thought I'd go big on this. I miss my dalo and lolo. Some Fijian friends are finishing up the lovo out back, should be done by lunchtime early afternoon. Big surprises inside. Nice smoky tasting treats. Kana Levu! (literally "big food")

On the first sunshiny 60ish AM since last year a cup of coffe before a tennis game will be just swell. Move over Gyre so we can all fit around the SCC and munch on some of Elorrrum's tasty treats as we glug down the coffee.

Have a great day, everyone!

Taking my Mom and 5 yr old niece out to the Eagles Hall for a breakfast buffet first though. Niece is wondering where Grandpa is, she doesn't understand why he is gone.

Bula bula! Are you from Fiji?!

Despite the moop, that would be a great way to cook on-playa.

Mona the coffee maker is doing her thing as I type. She sure smells good. We've nicknamed the coffee maker Mona because as she spurts the coffee into the container she makes a moaning sound. First couple times we heard it we thought there was someone else in the house.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

I like a good mona.

Sometimes you do need to be quiet, though...

Ni sa Bula, Dougly. No I'm not Fijian. Funny, I got used to being called a European, which is what all the white folks are called there. My mother is a Fiji Citizen and my parents lived in Savusavu for almost 20 years. I lived there for a few years, and visited often.

o.k., tablecloth on floor, everybody sit around the edge, and dig in. Kana Kana, come eat. Get the guys away from the grog bowl... well, they'll eat later I guess. Any neighbors walking by the bure (house), we yell, "Kana, Kana!" and wave them over. Utensils, rare actually.
Fish, wild pig, polusami, dalo, cassava, breadfruit, kokuda, chicken, roro, lots of miti (cocount cream with onion, lemon, salt and chili... good sauce for the starchy stuff) and vudi vaka soso (very ripe plantains with coconut cream, almost like peach cobbler) for desert (I don't know if I remember all the right words) Kana Levu!
Lolomas to all my friends in Savusavu. Vinaka vaka levu. Isa.

Oh man, you had to go THERE!

Its worse then even just guilting her out of the house.....

First we get her all drunk, and she has a headache so we gave her a Vicodin for it, so now she loopy, and then some herbal medizinessss, then if that aint enough, we go outside, in the cold, and make her hold a lighter lit so we can play with fireworks(sparklers) which proceed to light at same time and drip lead ALL OVER her thumb and index finger, of course giving her 3rd degree burns....bad bad burns.......

Other then that we were really good.
