So this 66-year-old cougar walks up........
Was @ a party a week ago here in WA and this girl (i'm 55) walks up and starts talking about when she lived in Reno, blah, blah, blah.....and did I know about Burning Man! Long story, short.....didn't get laid but (even better) got the skinny on BM.
Virgin ready to take the plunge. So many times, when things have come up, I have had kids, work, etc. get in the way of doing shit like this. NO MORE! Taking the ride to NV asap. Volunteering for anything and everything this time. Can't wait to hit the Playa and inhale the cosmic dust whipping across the Black Rock.

Welcome. I hope you have better luck at Burning Man!the crossroader wrote: Long story, short.....didn't get laid
Welcome! Cheers to our cherry poppin!
The more posts I see in the welcome thread, the more I notice something I really like: a good number of them start with 'so I met this person who was telling me about Burning Man....' or something along those lines.
Nice to see that grass-roots still does work.

Good point. Although, the Malcolm folks did do a pretty funny job for what it was.oneeyeddick wrote:Sometimes, the person that tells them about Burning Man saw it on first on Malcolm in the Middle,Maxim, Reno 911, etc.
Grass roots are sometimes fertilized artificially.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Regarding the piano, bring it. I've seen several people bring pianos...but expect it to need a professional cleaning and tuning when you get it home. Plus, it gets really hot during the day and pretty cool at night and the air is really dry and it's pretty dusty; so make sure you consider the effects of the elements on the instrument. It may never be the same again!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

If I am to believe in one of the basic Burning Man tenants, i.e. "no expectations", then I myself just wish to survive, but hold no great hopes for the Steinway (born 1899) to come away unscathed. The piano and I have had several conversations....at length and sometimes at great odds......often quite HEATED, and yet it's in the best interest of all concerned if it goes "out in flames",....or "down in flames".
One way or another, "she's goin'down"!! Any ideas as to her ultimate demise are welcomed for consideration. Theme Camps are offered this little lady first, providing appropriate measures are taken to ensure her a fitting death!!
Looking forward to making "Ying Yang" (a little spit, some sand clumped into a small ball, best flung towards friends that know you well) on the Playa or in the next cubicle if your so inclined! Suprise your friends......!

Yeah, but, but... I wanna' see the piano burn. I wonder if the strings make any noise as they burn?

I'm not sure that I like that having sex on a piano thing. A woman got killed doing that here a couple of decades ago.

Pardon me, but I'd say bring the piano... Don't volunteer.
At least not for too much of your time as it's your first year. You should take your first year, NOT VOLUNTEER, and see what the city has to provide.
Really, how else will you know what the city has to provide?! Bring your talents.... your piano... your "gifts" of being who you are & all the generousness... help your neighbors and feed your friends... but save your time for really experiencing everything out there, and you'll find what you want to do! Then it will come more naturally... with a deeper understanding.

Brings to mind the Movie "The Piano" W/Harvey Keitel and Holly Hunter, the harsh environment, the absurdity of a Piano in the Wilderness, the hot steamy nights on the plantation... Did I mention it had Harvey Keitel in it?..
