Gene Barry (Bat Masterson) Eugene Klass, 1919-2009, aged 90 in a carehome. Debued in 1942 on Broadway. Stage, film, TV. All his grandparents were Jewish refugees. Died Wednesday.

I loved him in all those 50's western spinoffs. He played with all the best, Mae West to Clark Gable. His star is on Hollywood Blvd. for his stage work.

I met a lady who lost a dear friend three months ago. She's got a barbarian's fierce optimism. She also wants to hit the Burn this year. We'll see. :)

RIP: Shelly Kirk Sackman, 40. She leaves behind a husband and two boys ages 9 & 11. Another life cut short thanks to fucking cancer. And of all things it was skin cancer that started as a tiny spot on her ankle and then spread too fast.

I reckon desert rats like we-uns ought to get educated on that there:
http://www.skincancer.org/
There are three main types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Because each has many different appearances, it is important to know the early warning signs. Look especially for change of any kind. Do not ignore a suspicious spot simply because it does not hurt. Skin cancers may be painless, but dangerous all the same. If you notice one or more of the warning signs, see a doctor right away, preferably one who specializes in diseases of the skin.

Don't worry, there are no "magic words" that can sooth grief.

However (and this is important so I'll repeat myself, however) taking the time to say a few words, does count. GH is going through something where the people around him are being ripped away. A gentle reminder that there are still other people around can be a comfort in an almost empty universe.

goathead,

If I were near, I’d reach out and put my hand on your shoulder. But I am not.

So I will try my best to reach you through the aether with words on a backlit screen. Not the best, but the best I can do tonight.

So, yes… one foot in front of the other. We all will complete the cycle in our own time. Until then we must live our lives as best we can, for they are fleeting. And when we wear thin, turn to those around us to help keep us from crumbling in the wind. And the wind will ease. So too, will we straighten ourselves and march, no... dance on. Dancing one foot in font of the other.

I used to say "everything you see around you, everything that you love, it destined to turn into dust before your eyes."
But that would be a LIE.

Yes, you can love the impermanent. But look closely and you will see the essence, everywhere, of that which will endure for eternity. Give your heart to that, and know that you will meet again.

What sucks is the dermitologist I go to does'nt examin my legs, feet or scalp unless I ask him to. Time to look for a more reliable one.
And to think, a little spot on her ankle.
