Costume Shop Lives!

Post by Dr. Zarkov » Wed May 26, 2004 6:13 pm

My wife, who some of you know under her Playa name Isadora from the Nile Room, has opened a new store selling vintage clothing, jewelry, home accessories and custom costuming, Elinor Coleman’s Vintage Mirage, has opened in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Located at Suite 201, in the Old Town Market building at 210 North Lee Street, between Queen and Cameron Streets, the second-story shop, specializes in vintage clothing from all of the most exciting decades of 20th Century fashion, as well as jewelry – some dating back to the Victorian era – along with fun accessories.

Included are hard-to-find party dresses from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s. Also from that era are gloves, purses and jewelry in mint condition to help form a complete outfit, if desired.

A member of the National Button Club, Elinor also can help you find antique and very special buttons that can turn any garment into a unique item.

A special feature of the new store is offering of the custom design of one-of-a-kind costumes and outfits, an experienced modern dancer, choreographer and costume designer who moved down to Alexandria from New York City in the fall of 2003.

In addition to more than 20 years experience designing costumes for dance performances, Elinor with the help of friends costumed hundreds of participants at the Burning Man Arts Festival in Nevada in 2002 and 2003.

The store also will offer unique theme party decorations and gifts such whimsical cigar box purses and artificial flower creations exclusively at Elinor Coleman’s Vintage Mirage.

Initially, the store hours will be 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday or by appointment. Please call 703-535-8200.

Yeah, I cribbed it from the press release I wrote for her, but I hope you don't mind. If you are in the Washington, DC, area, I hope you can stop in.
