playa playa

Post by leydar » Mon Jan 18, 2010 7:27 am

Hey there,

I'm from Dublin. I bought a ticket to your little gig thingy. I assume someone can send me detailed instructions of how to get from Dublin Airport to the Black Forest or whatever. I'll be wearing something black so I should be easy enough to spot. If you could pick me up and drive me that'd be great.

Also can you please post a schedule of when the things I'll be interested in are on and where. Please don't think I'm a newb because I've been to some Metallica gigs in the past and they were like miles outside the city. I have a tent. Can you put it up for me?

I'm going to do something massive and so impressive that no one in the burning man has every seen anything like it before. Can someone give me an idea what and then do it for me please? Will there be condom machines?

See you at that thing in the desert dudes ;)

Thanks,
Stephen

You almost had great schtick going until it went over the top!

Seriously, I know a guy that says he wants to go, and is absolutely certain he can and will pull off the biggest most impressive thing anyone's ever seen at BM. He hasn't a clue of the logistics or where the bar has been set. He says "But you've been there lots, you're my advisor!" I try to tell him "Then LISTEN to your advisor when he tries to tell you..."

the folks at "reacharound" camp are usually willing to take in new folks....and, will help you erect whatever you bring, so I'm told.......

they may well be willing to meat you at the airport, and, ride you all the way to BRC.

Damn I'm slow today. After Crypto's comment I had to do a re-read. It must be the holiday - I plain missed it first time around.

That's nice, that they help and you don't have to bring your own erection.

In the interest of self sufficiency, I always bring my own erection. Pack it in, pack it out! :D

Thanks for all your warm replies ;) So, yup, it'll be my first time over there. I'm gonna try and get in contact with one of the groups from here before I go but I'm essentially travelling by myself. The scariest calculation is how much whiskey I'll have to bring with me for the week :o Hmmm? No you don't have proper whiskey in America, don't be silly. I'll try and bring enough for everyone.

So far, the fall back plan is to fly into San Fran and rent a bike to drive to Reno where I'll catch one of the shuttle coaches. Hopefully I'll hook up with some people here before then or talk some of my less cynical friends into giving it a shot. I've been reading remarkably scary reviews of the San Fran/Reno greyhound so I might give that a miss.

Anyway, I think I'll head off elsewhere in the forums and start asking more specific questions. The world between now and August will be fraught with trepidation but I'm looking forward to meeting you or people like you in the desert. I really am :)

Now THAT'S the craziest thing you've said!
But here's hoping you can pull it off.

I'm pretty certain you'll be restricted to a couple of liters. I can't find the precise information on the US Customs Website, but you can rest assured that being caught taking more is more trouble than it's worth. There was a guy on the boards who ended up missing the burn because of some sort of customs fracas in Toronto.

Was it really Toronto? Is Toronto right on the border? Was it in the airport and Ottawa lets us have a customs station in the Toronto airport? And why are English vowels so damn flexible? Former gymnasts?

I know, yeah. I'll bring across a couple of decent bottles and get some quantity in WallMart or whatever.

Don't ever. Ever. EVER...take the Greyhound. My experience riding the Greyhound several years back killed a part of my soul with concentrated bleach such that nothing can ever flourish there again.
