Oh wow. HIM! I think I read that he made that motorcycle jump himself -- no stunt double. Coolest movie dude ever.

Oh, OK. I guess I'm guilty of promoting an 'urban legend', then. I could google Elkins, but it is more fun to test my memory on a live audience -- Elkins was a big time desert racer....

McQueen not only jumped the fence with a 1942/45 Harley.. He did it without the ramp they were building.. That ment getting the stickshift, dump cluch, hunk of "iron" wound up through wet grass.

"TT Special 650 Triumph. We painted it olive drab and put on a luggage rack and an old seat to make it look like a wartime BMW. We couldn't use a real BMW, not at the speeds we were running, since those old babies were rigid-frame jobs, and couldn't take the punishment"

I did not want to know that.

Fucking BMW's bolts fell out. Had to spend the week nights wrenching it. Just to kept togeather for a week end. No (kids) we didn't have lock tight back then, We did a lot of drilling and wireing through the bolt heads. Got that done then dropped on a grated bridge deck. Junk. As for me.. I spent some time in the burn ward at the navel base Long Beach. Needed some help growing some skin back.

Same like Triumph. I rode my "trumpet" with a screwdriver in my back pocket.

Well Buckaroos... our Apok City of the Demised is coming along very well.

So far, BB Sue has been out in charge of the 2010 Kantina Operations and is moving along with great ingenutiy.

Dragonfly Jafe and Espresso Dude, as well as myself, are making various 2 and 3 D elements to give our camp that carpet-bombed feel!!

Espresso Dude is busy bulding a rather extraordinary false destroyed building!!!

Here's a sneak preview:

Earlier in this thread some pics were posted showing elements of what we are constructing, which will be our most ambitious effort yet.
