Hello from the other Desert!
Hello from the other Desert!
21/female from Lake Havasu City Arizona. I'm used to 130 degree weather, so I think I'll manage quite well (or don't we all think that as newbs)
I have found my home... when I found this site almost 2 years ago.
Missed 2009, I'll die before I miss 2010.
Bringing my brother and his roomie(a veteran burner)
My best friend from Tucson (the gay liberal)
And my rave sister from Houston (she'll make you smile, no matter what)
I think I'm going to be camp mom from the sounds of it. I'm planning ahead, and replanning and replanning.
I won't over or under do it (or so I hope)
I hope I can read as much as possible before asking a silly question, if not, just direct me (or giggle, I'm ok with either)
I hope to meet you all, or atleast cross paths unknowingly on the Playa
I also look forward to getting to know some of you here maybe before heading out and feeling a little less overwhelmed!
:)

WELCOME E-Home...
Victorian, this is e-playa, and not the playa, we all get a little snarky here, dont take anything personal!!!!!!
We're all just a bunch of caged up animals waiting to be set free in the desert every year.
(this is the other 51 weeks!)

Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".
Thank you mom, for taking the time to answer!
I have read every page I can find at burningman.com, and tried to read them twice each to make sure I have not missed anything.
I'm making a list, checking it twice, making sure I bring things both naughty and nice... Victorian is coming to the plaayaaaa....
No but seriously. I've decided to take the moving van approach, if you all happen to notice me, I'll have the bright yellow truck, and YES, I'll cover up any posted advertisements on the car (see, i've read my rules and guidelines)
I'm coming prepared, but still trying only to stick to the necessities.
As for this next month or so, my main missions:
*Find a bicycle (garage sale, bare basics)
*Find/Buy/Rent some sort of generator/power source
*Hunt down lots of solar panel lights, etc
*Tents/Shading
*Ideas for my artwork to contribute
The rest I'm getting as I go along.... I have plenty of time....
Anything else I should be worrying about THIS SOON into the game?
Once again, thank you...
And if I'm posting in the wrong spot, please, feel free to be persnickety or snarky... I'm all for it.
After a dozen years on the playa, we now don't use electricity at all - have a genny and haven't needed it at all the last few years.
Welcome Victorian. I'm glad you are coming out to play.
Interesting to hear, Mojo.
What do you miss all week without that genny? Anything you've learned to go without, minus your cell phone charger, hair dryer, lamp and lamp shade, beer bar sign, double monitor computer, and espresso machine?
I kid I kid.
That's why I am coming, to leave all that behind....
So I kind of thought the same thing at first, and like I said, first time on the playa this year, but not my first camping trip in the hot desert...And I know nothing compares, but atleast I had the training course... :o Sorta??
And thank you all again for the warm welcomes....

QUESTION:
I've been thinking of building my "camp" here in my backyard this summer..
To set everything up, camp out for the weekend, and see if there would be anything evident that I'm forgetting... And need to add to my list..
And also, just fantasize, about my playa trip..
What do you think????
Tell me, you're laughing at the little virgin burner. Don't lie.
Edit*for C.F.M. (sorry I'm sick with a sinus cold, fixed the question!)

That was a statement, not a question.Victorian wrote:QUESTION:

That is a very smart idea. Setting up your stuff beforehand is wise, and recomended. This makes it easier to judge how you might get things set up in the dark or in the wind, or by yourself if everyone jets out of the car upon arrival. To actually commit to then "camping" in it is an interesting twist. If you haven't done much camping it will give you an idea of how comfortable your sleeping set up will be.Victorian wrote:I've been thinking of building my "camp" here in my backyard this summer..To set everything up, camp out for the weekend, and see if there would be anything evident that I'm forgetting... Oh I've camped millions of times... But you did confirm my guess on that...
I'll definitely set up and tear down, all on my own, verify things I forgot or really don't NEED, and see how I can muster it all up together my lonesome...
It's looking like I'm going stag to this year the more and more things roll along....
I've posted ride share and a few other topics regarding my worries...
Thanks for the tip though on this part of it
Your picture made me giggle Elorrum. Perfect remedy for a doldrum day at the office

It doesn't really matter how many years/times you've been camping. I told myself the same thing.Victorian wrote:Oh I've camped millions of times... But you did confirm my guess on that...

It simply is not the same, out on the Black Rock desert.
Yes, you are correct, once more! I'd love to maybe see you on the playa C.F.M! You've been such a help with most of my posts here on e-playa.C.f.M. wrote:It doesn't really matter how many years/times you've been camping.
