Yes, for aluminum cans, there is Recycle Camp. They are in or near Center Camp, and they have a pedal-powered machine that flattens the cans. You bring your aluminum cans to them, and perhaps take your turn pedaling the machine. I believe the proceeds go to a charity; someone else will inform you in a moment, I'm sure.

Then there is lumber. Unless this has changed recently... Reusable lumber and plywood of worthwhile sizes are collected and used for something. Look for lumber piles near the burn platforms (where the scrap lumber and such can be burned).

But glass and plastic bottles you must take with you home.

And Welcome to ePlaya!
:D

It goes to Burners Without Borders. Maybe New Orleans still? Peru? Possibly by August, Haiti.

Thanks for posting about the wood recycle. We didn't find the can recycling last year and just recycled our beer cans when we got home.

TIP: Avoid bringing glass of any kind. Tried as I might, I could not find Absolute Vodka in plastic, but we were very careful with the empty. I haven't had to pick up broken glass from playa, but it looks like an awful job.

I'm still trying to find a nice variety of premium canned beers as well for the same reason to avoid glass. I'm not much of a Guiness fan, and there are times I'd like something tastier then LaBatts
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Of all the prep reading I did before my first burn last year, not bringing glass was one piece of advice I somehow overlooked. Luckily, there were no mishaps.

Would it be a bad idea to transfer certain uncarbonated beverages from glass to more appropriate (plastic?) containers before packing them for the trip? Would this work for something like vodka or would it result it funny tasting vodka?

Or, what about wrapping glass containers in a couple layers of duct tape. That would probably protect from most accidental breaks, and would certainly keep most (if not all) of the pieces together in the event that it did break.

If your brake a beer on the playa street.. By the morning it is spread over 10 yards and takes half hour to pick up.. Maybe a dog poop scoop w/screen will work better this year..

I bring a shop vac to pick up hard to recover moop. Makes a 30 minute job in to a 2 minute job. Although it is not my practice to moop but sometimes moop happens.

If you must bring glass, keep it in your camp... walking around with a glass beer bottle is a certain marker of 'cluelessness'...

Louise and I generally have a glass of port in the evening at Burning Man. My brother gave us a set of crystal just for this purpose. Louise makes a dozen or so jar cakes, baked in Mason jars, which we enjoy throughout the week.

oh em gee.... i bring port too. do they have port themed camps? if so, im there!

i really like the idea of wrapping the bottles in duct tape as previously mentioned. but the port i drink is Warre's otima, which is a narrow bottle with fairly thick glass.... and well, that's really the only glass i bring.

most beverages i belive are contained in more practicle vessels these days.

in terms of beers, what if you just brought a few bottles of the good stuff for your 1st and 2nd round before you substitute for the canned stuff?

theres a really good english double chocolate stout in an orange can that has a little plastic ball in it for that "draught" taste...

one idea for a good craft beer in a can.

Corona comes in cans also...if you consider that a good beer.

I don't know. But I know how you could find out. Test it now.
Note: There are issues about contamination, and some people wouldn't trust recanted liquid.
