new site for gay / lesbi and inbetween gayburners.com
Hey all. I built a site for Burners and their blurry lines... ha ha ha... but seriously I know that ePlaya is like the ultimate hub for Burning Man stuff, but I made this site to connect with more Q-Burners so the parade for Metrolpolis will be even more crowded or / and we can maybe connect more at Metropolis. Check it out if you can.

Hmmm... I'll have to think about that for awhile. Why do we need a website of our own? I like it here just fine. Our camp has a site of its own for planning, but I don't think I like the idea of a seperate site for gay burners in general--I like the diversity of eplaya.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

We are talking about a population that has been discriminated and marginalized for centuries. While I don't feel that this is a problem in BRC to anywhere near the extent it is outside it, even in San Francisco (or at least the bay area,) I also have to respect that gay burners might feel that they need a safe space to discuss what they feel makes them different. And as the llc is not putting aside resources for the use of gay burners (with the exception of this thread,) I don't see that it's really discriminatory in any meaningful way. Or maybe it is, but to no big extent, and the harm done is more than compensated for by the value that this resource may create.

I suppose there could be a section created on eplaya for glbt discussions; but then again, why? I don't feel discriminated against by anyone here or at BM; and for the most part, if I had something I wanted to discuss, I'd just put it out right here. I certainly don't care if someone wants to set up the site; I just don't think it would be for me. Hell, I don't even go to gay bars that much anymore. Most of the hippest places in Hollywood now days are all pretty much mixed. My partner and I even go ballroom dancing downtown on the plaza during the summer and have never felt out-of-place.

I hear us having issue and critique in regards to our fellow burners contribution and it makes me smile knowing that it is a part of the artistic process, life unfolds as it should. I like the site, it's layout is sharp, and has features i like.(as far as I could see, I didn't create an account, as I'm against leaving socks all over.) I've just never felt like my orientation needed a billboard, My Idea being, 'if I'm hitting on you you probably understand me.' I hope, those who use the site, also continue to stay in contact with the greater community as a whole, and help all of us continue the concept of radical inclusion. good luck in your, endeavors:!: And Toaster if you are ever in the need of digital art, logos, animated gifs, banners etc.. or just webtasticisim, call on me.

Me too... oh wait... I built the site. ha ha ha.... yeah that pic of him at Burning Man was awesome. AND BTW... no exclusion. There is no check of orientation at the door. It's social networking... dahling... not social exclusion. Besides. I am suing it much as a resource for the "gay" camps and just networking with those who have such interest.unjonharley wrote:Boijoy wrote:I'll join if Adam Lambert does.

Thanks, but don't forget I live in Los Angeles. I'm not so sure I'd be going out dancing if I were back in Cleveland Ohio.mojo wrote:You're a hero JK - tolerance and acceptance will be faster in coming with the likes of you at play in the world.jkisha wrote:My partner and I even go ballroom dancing downtown on the plaza during the summer and have never felt out-of-place.

That's a crock, Each person at Burning Man is a minority onto himself.. That spirit of BM is to live and share with the people next door.. The fun is not having to even know who they are.. Take 50.ooo people and have a party..1durphul wrote:the answer to why we need our own spaces is "because we are a minority and that makes it easier to find each other."
It is the same reason why burners (another minority) have their own tribes and websites. It is so they can associate among people with common view points and experiences.

Oh come on, that's like condemning a coffee theme camp for not serving tea. Homo/bi/whateversexuality is an interest, and there's nothing wrong with setting up a forum for people who share that interest. If someone came on here saying that they had made a forum for Burners who ride motorcycles, no one would have a problem with THAT. They would say "Oh, okay. Now Burners who ride can find other Burners in their area to ride with. Cool." How exactly does the fact that the interest in question is sex change things at all?unjonharley wrote:That's a crock, Each person at Burning Man is a minority onto himself.. And you know, sometimes when you feel fully supported and accepted by "your people" it's actually easier to go out to see others that are different.PavementBlues wrote:Oh come on, that's like condemning a coffee theme camp for not serving tea. gayburners.com has been really successful and it is open to anyone who wants to join; irregardless of orientation. Thanks to all those who have participated.
Anyway, it was cool meeting so many people out there this year and participating in some of the workshops at Comfort & Joy. Also, Moonbow did some awesome mixers!!!! Gay Pride was short, but I was very happy to be involved. Hugs Mario!
