5 Second Rule Extended to 30 Seconds!

(From http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_shots/)

You’ve waited hours in line to get your hands on Kogi’s Korean BBQ tacos, and as you step away from the truck, the unthinkable happens – your drop your meal on the ground.

What do you do? Will your immune system survive if you pick it up and eat it? How about your reputation?

The good folks at SFoodie, the food blog from SFWeekly.com, have stepped in with this handy flow chart to help you navigate the complexities of this and other dropped-food scenarios.

The chart was inspired by the cutting-edge research of two biology students from Connecticut College, who tested the validity of that famous food safety axiom, the 5-second rule.

In an ingenious series of experiments, they dropped apple slices and Skittles candies on the ground and measured how long it took for dangerous bacteria to render it unsafe to eat. They found that the axiom could safely be renamed the 30-second rule.

Special thanks to Fooducate for calling this to our attention.

YEAH!!!!!

But when it comes to bacon, its still only 5 seconds in the playa dust and of course no matter how dusty it gets we still eat it!

why 5 seconds you ask? cause if you dont grab it within 5 seconds someone else WILL!!!!!

Your link went to the blog instead of to the post, so I thought I'd throw that in. You might want to be careful with the BBQ:

"Result for the Skittles: Bacteria were detected at 5 minutes.

Result for apple slices: Bacteria were not detected at 30 seconds or less but were detected at 1 minute. (The bacteria probably stuck easier to the apple because the slices, unlike the Skittles, were wet.)"

Korean BBQ is wet and sticky, unless it is done differently where you live.
