So, at Alchemy Sunday night, I was Ranger lead, I got to use the "Ewoks and unicorns" bit when someone asked this question, and was all, "bechawawa!" and this guy was like, "what do chihuahuas have to do with rangering?"
And we had this big long discussion about which one would be the "male," who's on first, what's on second, etc.
Ha! This thread (well, one snarky comment that I liked and remembered, the rest of it is pretty lame) provided some people with an uber-memorable experience.

IF that snarky comment had been by anyone but Bob, you'd have broken my heart with that comment.C.f.M. wrote: (well, one snarky comment that I liked and remembered, the rest of it is pretty lame)

Green Dot Rangers?
Does anyone know what is involved in Green Dot Ranger Training?
I have read the Ranger website and know that Green Dots have to do the General Ranger Training as well as the Green Dot Training. Is the Green Dot Training the equivalent to the Mentor "dirt" training that the Regular Rangers do? Or is it something in addition to "dirt" training?
Thanks,

Do you have real world training in this area? My memory is that that is part of the requirements. Certainly true of the Mental Health Branch of ESD. Just fill out the volenteer form and note that this is one of your interests. Perhaps you should get on the Ranger's announcement list, too.

Yes, I do have real world experience: I have been a social worker 4 years and in my second year of a Master's program in Counseling Psychology. I have filled out the volunteer questionaire, have gotten on the Ranger email list. I have read the Ranger handbook, which has about 3 to 4 paragraphs about green dot rangers. The Ranger website has "Check back for more information" under Green Dot Training - and that was for 2009. I have done on the self reliant stuff - even read stuff off the BM sites regarding Green Dot Training.theCryptofishist wrote:Do you have real world training in this area? I was hoping that someone on the eplaya who has gone through the training or knows about the training could answer my question as everything else I have read is more about what Green Dots do.
Perhaps I am eager,

Re: Green Dot Rangers?
You first have to be a Dirt Ranger for a year to train to be a Green Dot. The program is being worked on right now, though, so more information will be available before the Burn, but it's not nailed down yet.NyxyNox wrote:Does anyone know what is involved in Green Dot Ranger Training?

Re: Green Dot Rangers?
If I'm not mistaken, you'd actually have to be a Ranger for two years before you can Green Dot. This is because returning Rangers with less than 2 years must repeat the full training.PavementBlues wrote:You first have to be a Dirt Ranger for a year to train to be a Green Dot. Thanks,
Those with more than 2 years can skip the morning portion, and only attend the afternoon refresher. The morning is when they cover things like Green Dot, etc. So you'd need to be a 2+ year Ranger to get the training handled.
As Pavement said, this may change this year if they alter requirements or logistics again.
But, I can't say this enough....you might not WANT to do Ranger Green Dot after you Ranger for even your first year. You might find that working directly with ESD suits you more.
