Just a small camp for Metropolis.
I'll be pumping out deep house, Detroit techno and Chicago house circa 1987 -1990.
Only the very best from this era of 'dance'. Expect 'old school' mixing of lots of rare tracks.
Will be playing 5 or 6 nights of the week, starting with sweet smoochy beats early in the week, progressing into kickin' house later in the week and finishing off with the original techno sounds of Detroit and the deep grooves of Chicago acid.
Might even have a bar!
Just thought I'd post this as I know that real house music is deeply sentimental for some. For those that it is - I wont let you down......its your house!
Am also intending to do a 'sunrise' party with some tracks that just should NOT be mixed....blissful but dirty, fucked up and raw.......for those times when you just have to 'get down' to the deepest underground.
Daytime tunes..... (if I feed myself!) will be along the lines of Kraftwerk, B.52's, Ravel's 'Bolero', War of the worlds (whole story on vinyl!), polkas and waltzes and of course Kraftwerk.
Sound quality will be 'high'.
Am only hoping to please a few and i hope it's you!
Toodley pips + peace
Jules

just a thought seeing as you are coming from so far, I am a fellow house head, been spinning since 93, and used to live in chicago, so i would love to hear your tunes for sure, the thing is you probably won't want to be spinning every night. I f you do you will miss so much! I would plan on playing a set every day around dusk through sunset, and then go out and have fun on the playa. This is all moot if you happen to have a huge group already going with you and everyone wants to spin etc. I have foud that it is hard to get the dance floor poppin without a bar, and a large shade structure. also if you are playin for only a few people at loud volume all night your neighbors might get a little pissed off no matter how banging the tunes are. I have seen stages where no one is dancing blasting their music at five in the morning and I must say i was glad I was not camped next to them. Some of the best house camps at burningman play during the day. With the unfortunate goodbye from Deep End(2000+ every day until sunset) their is a definate opening for a day spot. last year Pink Mammoth was the bomb spot. but only about 200 people. Just a thought so you can get the message to as many people as possible and have a great burn.
Creating Peace Through Anarchy Every Day!!! Stagger for life!
Thanks Curiosgnate,
Yeah you're right about the bar, I saw quite a few music camps last year that had put a lot of effort in but had no bar...not a lot happening! Which is a shame.
I would love to have a bar but am funding this on my own and running things on my own too. My campmates from last year are a kinda 'spectatorish' and feel that a theme camp is biting off more than they can chew (which frustrates me a bit being as they are in CA and I'm in England!) each to their own though. For me getting back to England without a pot to piss in is half the fun!

Right on Jules!
Sounds like we have similar backgrounds... old school DJs that still love to rock, looking for a fix on the Playa. I don't play house though, more like funk and old school hip hop.
I am thinking about doing the same thing, a one man sound system with lots and lots of mixing. I am considering a bringing technics and a full sound system, and maybe building a shack to minimize exposure.
I seem to be hearing the same thing that sound with out a bar isn't going anywhere.
Curious, what kind of equipment were you planning on bringing and how were you planning on housing/protecting it, and the basic ins and outs of your camp?

Ps - When I was going in the 90's there weren't so many people gifting alchohol. Usually there were plenty of more interesting diversions. I guess booze is the thing now? Seems a shame.
