This should be rescued for the Playa

Not sure if the dust would render it useless though!

That's a LOT of our lotto money spent considering they now don't want it!! :x :x

...it is simply too delicate to put in the North London garden it was supposed to adorn.
Yeah, pretty sure that the Burn would fucking DESTROY it.
Mr Dagg's previous outlandish inventions include converting his garden railings into a giant xylophone.
Okay...seriously, though. This guy needs to come to the Burn. I will buy his ticket.

I agree it's magnificent and I'm glad you posted this so I could see it, and taking this thing to Burning Man would be awesome and maybe the "rightest" place ever for it... but PavementBlues is right... the playa dust would be rough on it. It IS all stainless and maybe the whole thing could just be steam-cleaned out and be fine.
They didn't specify in what way it was "too delicate for the garden" other than the vandalism/theft angle.
It's on the wrong continent right now, it'd be another financial fiasco to bring it to BRC for a week for the hell of it though.

I gotta go check youtube for something on this thing!

Edit: Here it is! Check the other "related videos" on youtube, there's a bunch.

Yes, this guy is total Burner material! I wonder if he knows about it.

I'm sure we could track down some contact details with a bit of Googling. It sure is a feat of imaginative engineering, they just need someone who can SING to accompany it

That's a Brit number but I'd be reluctant to phone him - how on earth did you find that number? May be wise to take it down and just send him emails or messages via Facebook..........

I did a websearch and found his phone number within the first two pages of search results. Hardly private information.

It's just a music box. It wouldn't take a brainiac to build a massive music box, powered by the wind.

Bullcrap. This is a work of genius.

So how is your wind powered techno music box going to work?

Have you seen the construction videos? He had to drill and tap 11,000 holes in stainless.

Very steam-punky in its details. No surprise that it needed lots of holes and pegs. That's the first thing that went through my mind: lots of drilling. :)

Another cool machine:

Then rescue it for the playa. No reason to start a thread, just go ahead.

Mobile music box 2005 maybe?

Post by polykarmatic » Thu Jan 28, 2010 5:28 pm

I took this picture in 2005 "I think" and I'm not sure who the Artist was. I just know at the time I was aw struck at how beautiful it sounded. If you look closely you can see the small music box movements that are attached all over the horn, the sound was magical. The whole thing was set up so it could be pulled by his bicycle, the interactive part was winding the movements. It makes me smile recalling the sweet tunes all mixed together. I hope I've linked to the image correctly?

He got back to me over Facebook!
Hi Phoebe,

Thanks for your kind comments; I don't think the media have been entirely negative so far, but it is frustrating how difficult it is to get the most important details to penetrate the editing process. Your Burning Man site is amazing; wonderful scale and imagination! I can't imagine how you get funding to do it...

Henry
I explained it's not me who organises it, hehe - and pointed him to the BM website. Top dude!

That is very cool. A music box. Too bad it could never make it to the playa. It would destroy it. You'd never get it clean again.
