Well actually I wasn't even one of the people who replied to your original outrageous question...

So - if the person has a disabled permit and is not wheelchair-bound, motsyroonmatic's golf cart suggestion would be ideal, and he's right about choosing gas over battery-powered.
So - next thing to figure out, would it need to be delivered, or can you transport one? You mentioned earlier that building something and hauling it out there wouldn't work.
Delivery could get complicated because they don't let vehicles like that through the gate without proper approval, and if someone else hauled it, they wouldn't have that approval unless that gets figured out ahead of time.

It's also, perhaps, part of the price of having experts on hand. We have to have some reason to check into and participate on this board. None of us is getting paid. And on or off the internet humans tend to delineate "in" and "out." My guess is that goes back to ancestral monkeys at least. But really, what good did the snarking do? Sort of defeats the whole feeling of Burning Man to me.

Captain, I can figure out how to haul it there and will make sure we have what we need to make sure it's all on the up and up. If I had the time to drive from here that would be the easiest, Lord knows we have LOTS of golf carts and motorized carts here in Florida! We actually have golf cart parking only spaces at many stores, post offices, etc. around here!

Thanks again for your help!

Florida! Wow, that's a trek. Make sure to stop in Molbile, AL and pick up my sister on the way.

Just to make sure you saw it and jump through all the appropriate hurdles to get a license, here's the page to start on: Disability Vehicle Licensing

Swallow and you may be able to worm onto someone else's MV.

I love eplaya snark. It is my reason for getting up every morning.

Without snark, this place becomes.....the 3Playa! It would be like 4Chan without an activist streak. It would be like Danica Patrick without a race car. It's so much an engrained part of the place that to have it moderated out...well you might as well stick a fork in this place as it would be done!

We now return you to your normally scheduled programming, unless you were watching the Winter Olympics coverage on NBC where everything is tape delayed to insure maximum frustration.

You can also hitch rides on many art cars and mv's while on the playa.
Don't know where they'll take you or if they follow a certain route. I never have hopped one but its something I'll try some year.
Just another idea

What? You gotta try it! Sure you may end up walking half a mile back to your camp when the driver realizes he's too drunk to drive anymore, but it's always an adventure. I especially like it when some snobby fellow tells me to "get off!" because naturally I refuse and generally win them over. Except the one time when I was physically pushed overboard, but even that made me laugh and the look on that dude's face when I hit him with that full can of beer as they pulled away was priceless! Good times!

yeah, sometimes it aint just a matter of "hopping on".........

especially, if you're male, old, and, ugly, like me........
I tried several times over the years, especially on the big MV's........usually, told unceremoniously, that, it's "private" ,or, "there's no room".......just to see young, hotties allowed on..........

Of course, I'm ok with anyone doing whatever they want, with, their stuff......

just sayin'.......don't expect it to always work.

If you can get the tag number off the permit or an adequate description, report that sort of behavior to the dmv.

NO, FUCK THAT! Part of the agreement with the DMV is that ALL Mutant Vehicles are to be used as public transit, which means ANYONE can ride at ANYTIME! Sure, not everyone abides by this, but most people aren't willing to punch you in the face if you insist on staying either. I know what you mean about the big MV's the one I got the boot from was one of the big "party buses" and I was told that it was "invitation only" to which I replied, "Fuck You, you can't do that, and I'll goddamn stay if I want to!" He was bigger and I was drunk, so as soon as the vehicle slowed down a bit I was grabbed up and tossed overboard. Man though, that beer toss was the best I've ever done. Like Nolan Ryan in his prime I'm telling you. Hit the dude right in the breadbasket and I could see all the air leaving his body in one big OOMPH! Still makes me smile. Fuck those people!

This is simply not true...

Your statement is a twisted version of the truth, go check the DMV if you want.

Mutant Vehicles can deny riders due to space constraints or safety concerns.

Each vehicle is rated for so many passengers, and there are some spots that may look empty but must remain so for driver vision. So just because you can "hop aboard" doesn't mean you won't get in trouble (and possibly cause an accident/death or damage the vehicle).

Also, not all vehicles driving are Mutant Vehicles - some are persons with medical tags or staff vehicles or service vehicles for Art projects. They have no obligation to haul others about.

Always ask first.

Now, if they deny you but allow a young hottie, or say it is a camp-only vehicle, then get their tag/photograph them and report them to the DMV.

...plus it is against the DMV rules (if you mean getting on or off without the drivers permission, or while the vehicle is driving), and could get you ejected from the event if you get caught doing it...and as you mention, it is very dangerous to do so.

No, it does not. They're also required to operate safely, and most have a design limit of how much weight they can take. If I'm loaded to what my boat can handle and you attempt such behavior when you're told "we're full", and you chuck a beer can at me, expect a visit to the med tent.

I hope you're just snarkin'! I hate this shit, you should see what the operator of an MV goes through on a busy night. Drunk assholes with too much self-entitlement... people who see physical space on a vehicle and won't listen when I tell them we can only take so much WEIGHT - it's like a cereal box: packed by weight, not volume.

I don't even have to be full... if you seem too drunk and/or generally obnoxious, I won't let you on and I don't have to. The DMV does NOT say I have to tolerate your troublesome ass.

I've learned to never operate my MV without being armed (in a somewhat legal fashion) and from Thursday evening on a "door man". I've had to throw people off - literally. They all though I was being an asshole. I did shitloads of work and spent shitloads of money to provide playa-cruising for random burners, but I can only handle so many at a time. Then some asshole with your mindset shows up and thinks I OWE MORE.
I rarely bring this up. I should start a thread. MV operators go through a lot of shit from self-entitled drunk losers.

I'm bringing my own MV this year (assuming I'm approved).........
it's small, probably only 6 people.......so, I suppose I'll see the "other side".......although, my pal Looneytune, has a blue stagecoach (Gerlach stage company), and, has not complained......but, his is almost impossible to "jump on"........he lets people ride, up until, as CGD says, he's at weight/safety limit.......

Okay, okay... Jeez. Of course there are exceptions wherever safety is concerned, and I wasn't advocating hopping aboard a moving vehicle to anyone, that's just something dangerous and stupid that I myself do. Don't try it at "home" kids, I'm a professional idiot.

Anyone that hops on the back of my MV when it is moving is usually automatically not going to get a ride, regardless of whether or not there is space, but they will get schooled on what NOT to do when approaching an MV for a ride.

Over the years, I have had a couple of drunk people throw up (off the edge) of it, this also gets you an automatic boot from going any farther, regardless of where I am at the time.

I had some jackass in my face last year because my people up top told me he was too drunk, and was getting frisky with some of the girls on top, so I stopped the ride and made him get off.

He initially thought he could bully his way through the conversation we were having, but quickly changed his tune when he noticed the tire checker/club in my right hand.

I once had someone throw a drink at me, but he was DPW, and ...well....I did squirt him initially, so I let it slide.

Sorry, I kinda went off there... but this is something I've been dealing with for years.

Here's another thing about riding MVs: Taxi service. MVs are NOT taxis! What's the big deal about asking to be taken somewhere specific? It never ends! I can't get where I was going, I can't even get back to camp - there's always another person behind you, wanting to go somewhere.
You board an MV on the condition that you go wherever it's going... not the other way around. Even the DMV will tell you that.
If you are bleeding and need to get to Ranger Medical, of course my MV will immediately become an ambulance and high-tail it there. But people even abuse that - I've had so many people with fake injuries who need to be taken somewhere that I'm forced to deny any "emergency" service unless you're going directly to Ranger Medical. Not your camp.

Right.
The guys who actually go to the trouble and expense of building and transporting an MV to BRC know this stuff.
Boarding/exiting an MV while it's moving is specifically prohibited by the DMV. The driver is not being an asshole when he refuses entry to people who will not play by the rules, he's simply trying NOT to lose his MV license.
