BurningVan.org - Vancouver's New Burning Man Site!

Post by jody » Wed Jun 02, 2004 2:23 am

The BMV Web Development Team is proud to announce the launch of phase one of our community website, BurningVan.org! http://www.burningvan.org

BurningVan.org will be a valuable community web resource for many
reasons. Perhaps most importantly, the site is created by the community,
for the community. It is owned and directed by volunteer members of the
BMV (Burning Man Vancouver) community, hosted on a local server generously donated by a participant. Our web services will no longer be subject to the whims of large corporations, or have to endure annoying
advertisements. It is in our hands.

BurningVan.org will be the primary information portal for BMV. This
centralization process creates a single jumping off point for all local
resources. This will make information gathering more convenient, and
increase online social interactivity within the community.

Mailing lists will still be used as a more private means of communication
for planners & organizers of our local events. The existing Topica and
Yahoo email lists may eventually be migrated to our own mail system, and
are, in the meantime, linked from the site. We will be working to migrate
content from http://escape.to/burningman and http://www.recompression.com to the forums over time.

The BMV Forums section is the most prominent feature of the site right
now. The goal is to channel the various discussion lists into the
forums. Discussion groups include local event news, Burning Man-related
chat, and friendly discussions on a variety of popular topics. Everyone is
encouraged to sign up, create a personal profile, and try it out!

There is a forum allowing people to give feedback to the BMV Web
Development Team. Let us know how you feel. If you have experience with phpbb, we'd love to hear from you as we learn to tweak the product.

Enjoy!
