Let´s Czech it out:)

Post by MisaBlue » Tue Feb 16, 2010 2:20 pm

Hi you all here!

I am trying to get my ass from Central Europe to the Center of BRC this year.
I have never been, but since year ago, when I accidentally learned about BM, everything is telling me - Girl, you have to go! All of sudden there was a drama play about Burning man rehearsed in my favorite theater, then I met friend from my childhood, whom I haven't seem like 15 years, who told me she attended BM and all other random thing.
So now, after reading over and over the guidelines, suggestions and stories I am trying to make it all happen:)

Any special suggestions how to manage it from Europe?

Thank you! See you! Kiss you!

Ajoy, krasna holki ,

sorry, my Czech is limited.

there is much information available on the main site in the first timers and survival guides.

So, other than getting from Praha, Brno, or wherever, to either Reno, Sacramento, or San Francisco,

read the above suggested materials, and, if you can't find an answer, ask here..........

You might try standby flights or tours.
Just start far enough in advance .

I've become very curious about ÄŒesko after seeing some of the engineering done there.
In fact, I just traded some stuff for a bag of Vzor parts.
Beautiful workmanship and design.

I hope you make it out

Welcome to ePlaya, MisaBlue!

You are going to need camping equipment and supplies for a week in the desert. Obviously, you are not going to bring a week's worth of food and water on the airplane. So, you should make plans to purchase what you need when you get to the USA. Is that the sort of advice you are looking for?

You will need a ticket. And I do not know if they can send the ticket to you overseas. Someone else will probably be along shortly with that information. But you can also buy your ticket in advance and pick it up at the event. This is called "Will Call".

Of course, ask your friend how they arranged things.

And read the Survival Guide on the main web page.
:D

Is the International Burner Hostel still a camp? Know they had their huge tent stolen...wondering if they recovered.

Thank you:) all!

Ygmir, ahoj! Your Czech is sweet! How you know that?

Yes I´ll be coming from Prague and Elliot is right that I won´t be able to carry all the stuff on plane. So, what city would you recommend to get in? I was thinking into San Francisco, to try find all I need there - as cheap as possible of course. Is there any kind of list of burningman related shops, rentals or thrift stores or something like that? (I hope I am not asking stupid question, but I did not find it on BM webpage)

Also is it too late already to search for RV rental? We might be 3, so we could share the cost. Or is van ok for the event? I read some car advices but I would like to know more opinions on that.

Gyre, what you mean by stand by flight? I am not really sure what that means:)) (If you wanna know something about Czech or need something from Czech, just let me know:))

It is possible to get on standby, meaning you are waiting for last minute empty seats on a tour or flight.
Don't rely on the airlines alone.
It's best to check general availability these days though.
The closer to departure you take it, the cheaper.
But you have to be ready to leave and there are no guarantees.
Check all options, including Icelandair, Amex tours, package holidays and so forth.
Keep your options open on city, but include arrangements to travel here too.
It's over 2,000 miles from my city to the playa.
New York is an easy place to get flights to, but even further to travel from to the desert.
Reno is the closest city.
Often discounts are available where you are that we can't buy here.

one of my favorite drinks is Becherovka..........and Rhadeghast (sp?) pivo.

I did love my time in Praha......I have two dear friends here, both from Czechya. They teach me the language.......or try. I'm not so good.

There is much info here, in the archives.
You can get all you need in Reno. And, I think there is even a place there that will have it all together for you, for a fee, of course.
Or, if you can make friends with someone in Reno, they might be able to pick the stuff up.

Find the RV threads here, I know there is much to know about renting, especially related to Burning Man....Doc Pyro seems the expert.

If you can, I'd fly into Reno, just for the sake of less drive time.

Others I'm sure, can advise you as to how long to drive from San Francisco to the playa, and, the advantages of flying into and departing from, either Sacramento or San Francisco.

Depending on your camping experience, a rental car and camping gear will work, or, a van, or if you have the budget, an RV easiest. Some will argue against it. Again, read threads here, you'll get much insight.

Remember to plan well for snidane, obied, vecere, and, snack. As well as voda, pivo, and likor.........

I'd not even consider traveling from New York by RV........fly to the above mentioned airports and travel from there......

Ok, so I will take 3 days off of my job to search more and read more - I can see your smiles at newbies here :D

Ygmir - Radegast and Becherovka - good choices! I can´t actually drink Becherovka as it doesn't really taste as an alcohol to me and I am able to drink a lot of that :D.
I was thinking to bring Slivovice ;) (you know that?) and I can bring some Becherovka too, now when I know you like it.

PS: So, what are you? :)

Last year we camped next to some folks that flew in from Thailand, they rented an RV in Reno. They got charged a huge deposit because the rental company knew they were going to Burning Man, and the RV was gonna be dirty.

It would be worth it to research how much a "cleaning fee" would be compared to renting out side of Reno, and paying a little more for a few more miles.

Hagey burned out. Hardly a surprize. We wish him the best and I believe that he still attends the burn, but with other plans.

MisaBlue:

yes, I do know Slivovice.......but, it's just "ok" for me.
I drank to much of it once at "Cafe Rincon".....between the astronomical clock tower and Wenceslas square.

What am I?.........well..........some might say loquacious......
I suppose the answer would depend on context........hahaaha.

I can imagine, others would have some humorous replies.

We're not so much smiling at the "newbie"......as, giggling and remembering all the research we had to do to learn....knowing the fun your about to experience.
