a big part of what you pay is the attitude exhibited on this message thread IMO. groupy-speak, or what is it?

So do you all expect another decrease in population this year?
My wife and I have transitioned solidly through the "everybody in the world needs to see Black Rock City," to "We're only camping with people who can hang out without BITCHING, people whose ass isn't too precious for JOTS, who don't need a shower and a swimming pool to call it a vacation, and who aren't going to WHINE ABOUT THINGS LIKE TICKET PRICES."
Simplify. It worked out well. Our playa virgins came out on short notice in 2008 (not their fault) and got their asses kicked by the endless dust storm, which tore their tent open and deposited half an inch of the playa on their sleeping gear. They had a miserable time but they stuck it out to the end, and they can't wait to come back this year.
If everybody in BRC had that attitude there might be 20,000 fewer people but I bet it would be the Best Burn Ever.

I hear a bunch of people talking about how dust stormy 2008 was. It was my virgin year, i was on 2:00 and by the end of the week i felt a little jipped because the dust storms were NOT like i heard they would be....with the exception of sunday night after the temple, that was sweet.

A lot of people didn't in 2008. There was a continuous friggin' exodus that only made the dust worse. The only problem I had with it was that so many people around us holed up in their camps and didn't come out to play in it.Ugly Dougly wrote:A lot of people stick it out to the end.
Firemoose... 2008 was dust stormy. The burn came to being postponed or canceled for the first time ever. The fire performers weren't allowed to perform and the burn was delayed for several hours because of the wind. I'm not sure that has happened before. Remember, they had those godawful white construction lights on the unlit man for hours, and then suddenly they went out, the man lit up at, like, midnight and they wasted no time getting the fire started.
There have definitely been more intense storms, but, the eight-hour whiteout on Saturday got old.
Dust storms aren't as much fun when your camp is trying to host things like spaghetti and wine dinners, but, on the flipside the rest of the week was beautiful, and the storms clobbered a lot of the weekenders ("where are all the NOODISTS? What's ROLLING? Where do people buy ecstacy here? Is there an ATM in center camp?") who probably went home and told their friends how much Burning Man sucks.
The playa provides.

We had early entry in 2008. Sunday was a day long dust storm, Monday was a day long dust storm. We couldn't finish getting the shade structures up until sometime Tuesday. There was a dust storm somewhere in the middle too. Hushville lost residents early on, and on Saturday.
The playa surface sucked for biking. We hauled our fuel cart out to the Man for the conclave, took the long way around so we could navigate by the lamp posts. Then they cancelled the performance. Sucky year.

saturday 2008 dust storm kicked my ass until I drank some vodka put on my goggles and tutu (from tuesday) and went tent hopping throughout my camp. I had a great time. I was extremely bummed about the burn with no conclave! I had been telling my vigrin friend all week that the fire conclave performance space was nothing compared to all the people performing together, and then fireworks and man went up. I was like what the fuck! I still had a great time though!

Wow. I wonder what that's all about. If he had a problem with me he sure never mentioned anything to me about it publicly or privately.theCryptofishist wrote:If Zaphod ever starts posting stuff worth reading, please let me know so I can unplonk him.
Thank you
I'm going to go see if I can find a shit to give whether I ever get unplonked by some snarky fuck who doesn't have the common courtesy to tell another burner what his issue is before insulting him in front of everybody.

Disneyland. If it really comes down to how much it costs, please just tell them Disneyland is a much, much better deal.Popobumm wrote:Here's a simple comparison that even the most dimwitted should be able to understand...
Big "festivals" people pay to attend:
Electric Daisy Carnival - $140 for 24 hrs.
Coachella - $275 for 36 hours.
Burning Man - $280 for 192 hours.
Which is the best deal? ...HMMMMM
