Let me Ogle your Goggles!

What have you used before, what do you like, what do you prefer?

What's cheap?

What's worth the extra money?

What can you decorate?

What's better left as they are??

I wanna see ALL kinds of GOGGLES!!!

Swimming, ATVing, Steampunk, Homemade, Cheap, Expensive, Fun, Weird, Anything!

They look cool, but certainly would not seal against your face well enough to be comfortable. The eye and nose piece are hard plastic. I have some of the base goggles they are made from, and I promise, they suck.

I've yet to find goggles which I can wear over my glasses, I made some custom ones by gluing old lenses from my prescription glasses into sleek motorcycle goggles. My pics aren't loaded up right now, so I can't show them to you.

MyLarry swears by his reflective bugeye goggles. Daytime only of course.

I also have a pair of prescription work goggles, clear, for at night. They don't seal completely, but I'm usually okay with that.

However, most of the time I wear my prescription sunglasses and a scarf. My eyes sweat.

Sweaty eyes are why swimming goggles aren't ideal.

these goggles from ess failed me miserably last year i assumed that since they're for military desert use that the foam covered vents would keep out the dust but i was sorely wrong even after taping all sides of it dust still came in very easily to the point that i just gave up on em and had about the same amount of dust in my eyes when i only wore my regular sunglasses. bottom line i need a major upgrade for this year in the goggles department

The problem with completely sealed goggles is they fog up on some people. Test them, and use an anti-fog application.

I've had the best luck with ski goggles........usually have changeable lenses for color, and, filtered venting.
I've gotten pretty good ones on sale for 10 bucks...........

The come with three sets of lenses and are easy to swap out. I got them from a fellow burner off craigslist for $10. She never wore them so they were brand new. They aren't wild but they kept the dust out of my eyes. I love them!

Those look like dressed up cutting goggles..you can get them at welding supply stores. I think the model used didn't really show how they fit a human face. Actual cutting goggles fit quite well. Unfortunately, they come with tinted lenses(which are great during the day)...fortunately, the lenses are easily replaced. You'd have to look on line, but they have clear and multiple colors. They run around $20 bucks at a supply store, and I've seen em in black or medical green.

you can kinda see mine in my profile pick over there <--- Those are cheapy ebay 'vespa' googles. They're really light on the face, don't fog up and keep the dust out. I was really suprised. This will be their 3rd year out there.

I found a pair of these next ones at a barter camp in 2008 and traded some blinky junk for them. I already a pair of motocross goggles that worked well, so I gave them to a friend, she wore them that year and in 2009 and loved them. Very stylish!

They're really low-cost, and I figured that since they were made for motorcyclists, they'd be good at NOT filling up with dust. They won't fit over glasses, though. I'm planning to wear my contacts.

I got 2 pair from http://atomefabrik.com an artist in London.

These were brass and a bit heavy. I wore them at night for "dress up formal". They are way too heavy to wear for your regular goggles.

And these are aluminum and much lighter. I would recommend these for the playa.

You can find them cheaper on ebay. They fit over glasses and fold up flat. They are also very tough - I was caught in a stuffed animal fight a few years ago and got hit hard enough to pop one of the lenses out. I put it back in and they were good as new.

Those are exactly like the ones someone stole off of my Bucky skeleton in front of camp... yes in 2008. Bucky is still sad.

I had a pair of motorcycle googles last year. Looked cool but had a vent gap that allowed way too much playa in. I have found motocross goggles to be best. The Smith goggle , the SME, has vent that have high density foam in the holes. Supposed to work. At $23 I will try them. The factory recommended them.

I spoiled myself with some goggles by Adidas with snap-in prescription lenses. They look a bit like these:

They are of a modular design so you can snap in clear or dark lenses, strap or ear-hangers, foam surround or nose bridge. I just blocked the vents with electrical tape and they were a Godsend all week long. There are more fashionable styles out there, but clear eyes on the playa is the ONLY way to experience all of the amazing visual spectacle to its fullest.

I have been goggle shopping since late September of 2009.
Last year a buddy let me borrow his. Things I like:
light weight
folded in half and fit in day bag well
small and close fitting to the eye
Didn't like:
Red lenses, made day look funny, and night useless.

This year I plan to have a Polarized day pair and a clear night pair. It would be nice if I could find a goggle with Polarized/clear removable lenses.

I've seen lots of goggles with changeable lenses, but non that are polarized, has anyone had any luck with this?

I usually just use motorcycle sun glasses with the lightest colored lenses I can find. I'm with Anti.. I HATE when they are TOO air tight & my face sweats & the lenses get foggy. If enough dust gets into my eyes I just rinse with eye drops.

The hole was a gap in the padding on the side of the eye, on each side. A common way to vent them. I could not figure a permanent way to solve this. I believe it is fatal. My new ones will be motocross goggles, made for dust.
