Brainstorming for Theme Camp Ideas

Gotta bang around some ideas around in this thread. No committments, no criticism, just to see what comes up.

Last year, we did the Barbarian Obstacle Course, and it was a hit. I may do do it again this year, or something similar - depends on the amount of interest.

Another possibility is a dome, which would be home of various religious and spiritual observances, including but not limited to, Asatru, Seicho-No-Ie, "fake" religions like the Church of the Subgenius, FSM and so on.

Any other cool ideas you guys want to knock around?

Didn't Thunderdome call it quits? Do a virtual barbarian slaughter camp! Same idea but with aluminum weapons instead of steel...or Iron...not caught up on my metal ages...

Camp Suburbia... Think Ward and June Cleaver, white picket fence, dad goes out daily and mows the playa after his hard day at theoffice working for "Amalgamated Dust", Mom makes Bacon cookies... Teenagers with their hot rod mutant vehicles...

I wouldn't mind putting together a concert space for unusual acoustic performances: medieval, renaissance, Celtic, various ethnic.

It would be a non-alcoholic bar.

I could call it Cimmerian Cafe.

I brought my renaissance vocal group to the playa in '07, we gigged on the OBOP stage, at Whiskey & Whores, the Temple and Center Camp... must admit, madrigals & medieval chant take on a whole new feel when you're singing in lingerie and swinging on a stripper pole!!! Don't know if we'll get a quorum in '10, but if so, we'd love to perform somewhere dedicated to 'the good old stuff'!

I talked to a couple of people last year - one guy had a lute and the other did Irish pennywhistle and perhaps bagpipe. Madrigals would fit right in.
We had a couple of Ren Faire vets last year, and with luck we might get them back.

i love the idea of an acoustic instrument jam camp, and hoped we would get some of that going last year, but playa time seemed to intrude......! i'll bring my bells ... and see what else i can find.

in san francisco the other day, on market street, there was a guy playing a big set of cans, paint buckets, and other things of various size that sounded like drums when turned upside down ... he was amazing! maybe we could call it the found instrument camp.

Help dress the playa in latest furs and fashions

Caveman costumes, viking horns, fun fake weapons..

Have a timeline, even, of barbarians over the centuries--Roman barbarians, cavemen, Hun outfits...

Have a "barbarian" theme dinner, with fur and wooden thrones and a longer table like in ancient days..

Get historical with it?
