See addendum if you aren't familiar with contradancing.
Hi, I have started a discussion group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/burningmancontradance/
for planning a contradance Theme camp for 2010 and beyond, with introductory messages that lay out the logistical challenges and a preliminary plan for funding and otherwise making such a camp a reality (it would be best if you click the arrow that will reverse the default reverse chronological order).
Please pass this message on to anyone you know that are, or might want to be, contradancers and burners.
I am also sending this out to the LA and Santa Barbara contradance yahoo groups and eventually as many other contradance discussion groups as I can stand to subscribe to. If you have any groups that you know of that are particularly likely to include burners, please let me know or better yet if you are already subscribed, please post this message and send me a note telling me what group(s) you have posted to.
Thanks and best wishes, Mark [email protected]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contra_dance
Practiced around the world in most places attracting an all-ages (you may see parents dancing with their teen age children) mostly liberal (high percentage of care giving professionals) crowd interested in having fun, playing with the rules, flirting, behaving tribally (stomping and hooting) and ignoring gender conventions (lots of straight men dancing in skirts and kilts). Contradancing and square dancing share many of the same moves/calls and contra dances often throw in a few square dances, but the purely square dance subculture tends to be competitive (dancers work their way through levels), takes clothing and the dancing performance very seriously and is usually much more conservative.
Extremely welcoming to beginners and easily learned by those who believe they cannot dance. The usual Contra ethic is very sympatico with Burner principles.
Live music - mostly old time and celtic.
Find your local dance here: http://www.contracorners.net/contra/links/dancemap.html
or here http://www.io.com/~entropy/contradance/ ... index.html
(but all these national databases are hard pressed to keep up with changes)

Sounds like a great idea!
I would be more than likely to come by and dance...if you showed me how.
