Hey cool idea! I gain winter extra sugar pounds too (as I sit here eating a bargain 75% off box of valentine's chocolates)...goal is to be back down 10 pounds by mid August. So I'll call tonight's weight "+10" . My plan is to halve my dinner calories and make them mostly protein and vegs, while keeping the other meals as is. Will post in weekly or so. I bike to work and hate driving so at least that's in my favor.
There was a comment to the effect that "EPlaya Fitness Club" makes rather little sense. And I agree. In a Burning Man context, that phrase ought to be the name of a chocolate eating club, or some such. But it was the best I had that evening.
I'm working on getting my brother to send -- or bring -- some serious chocolates from Norway. Yes, I can keep it cool and dry on the Playa.

Rain stopped and sky cleared this afternoon, so I took a ride. Well, I walked some of it -- up steep muddy hills in my neighborhood. Went by the flea market, and otherwise just looked at all the vacant houses around here.
50 minutes of moderate-to-brisk excercise. Neglected to bring the camera -- sorry.

I did my usual mile loop, uphill more than half, some of it quite steep. Half a block backwards. I've always had deltoids and I don't know why, but I'm getting biceps, and that's been hard work.

If I could pack my lunch for work every day, and find something worth enjoying each day, besides your usual leftovers, pb and j, or frozen dinners, I'd be fine. I average fast food for lunch and dinner about 10 meals a week. That's alot....
I'm lucky I don't weight more with my family's history. I know it will catch up with me since I'm only 21 now.
Bought a beach cruiser at a garage sale for BM. I Should really start riding it so I don't get all winded.
I'm quitting smoking cigarettes, which is making me gain about 10 lbs quick also...

I'm getting those as well. The motion...
Put your hands behind your hips--but in the plane where they would be if they were just swinging as you walked.
Now, bring them forward, up and over, and imagine some resistance.
When I was working with the PT she have me do bicep and tricep curls.

Victorian, I salute you for quitting smoking! Don't worry about the extra food and resulting 10 pounds. It is much more important to tear yourself free of the nicotine addiction. Stick around on this thread, and we'll have those "quit-smoking-pounds" off you by August, no problem. Probably much sooner.
Three cheers and a tiger for Victorian!
Beach Cruiser bike is good.
Woohooo -- I'm happy for Victorian!
Fishy, you are also reporting great news. I did not know you have a "daily mile loop". That's wondermuss. When you feel ready to do a second loop with a hand-cycle, let me know. Peter will tailor-make you one, no charge.

Ah ha! I see I have you all fooled!Ugly Dougly wrote:Membership in the Burner community does not require sloth. Some of us take care of our bodies. Ygmir, for instance. And Sputnik, too, I think.
Seriously though, the winter and such has put the mark of the sloth upon me as well and so I will join your ranks, it's been in my head for a bit now. Can't quite do the couch to 5k thing just yet as the snow is deep and I don't have an inside treadmill, but I'll get on it.
It's going to be alright.
Welcome to the Fitness Club, Sputnic!
I dare say I don't look anything like a sloth, but when we compare today's society with the previous few million years, it seems obvious that few of us are living in a way that matches how we have evolved. (Which means that the Cave Man Diet makes a lot of sense).
I'm definitely addicted to ice cream and chocolate, but I've been "clean" of those for a couple of weeks now.
I'm currently fond of Red Baron Singles French Bread Frozen Pizzas, but for the last week or so I've been cutting them in half.
Now.... You are not going to believe what I am munching right now. Rolled oats. Just. Rolled. Oats. I'm sipping a Cabernet Sauvignon also, but instead of a box of chocolate chip cookies, I'm eating fingertip pinches of raw dry oats. I'm thinking this is something like a heroin addict taking methadone instead -- as an intermediate step to breaking the addiction. I'm keeping my mouth busy, chewing these little flakes of oat, instead of spoon after spoon of ice cream. Thoughts?
All right, maybe a tiny bit too much Cabernet Sauvignon.
Back on the bicycle tomorrow.
I know, it sounds weird. Heck, it IS weird. But I've been known to eat three quarts of ice cream in one sitting. So, anything to break that habbit. I wonder how many folks have similar weaknesses? Looking at all the 400-pound guys waddling around, there has to be some pitfall they are falling into, and I'm thinking that if I ate three quarts of ice cream every day and never walked anywhere or ever rode my bike, I'd could be one of those.ygmir wrote:are you sitting on a cold toilet seat, and, scratching your fingernails on a chalkboard now, as well?
For the record, the propane tank is near full and the furnace is blasting comfortably, thank you.
Hey Elliot! Good motivation to hear everyone's routine here. I had to adjust my diet due to medical issues and I've found that cutting the carbs is helping me lose the weight and gain back some energy lost from being in chronic pain. I do find the gym to be creepy, but I just close my eyes and run on the elliptical for 50 minutes listening to industrial music and fantasizing about being back at Thunderdome.
I've also been trying new recipes and going Quinoa crazy. I've found it to be a lot easier to say no to junk food after getting adjusted to a predominately raw diet. I just can't tolerate the fried foods and preservatives like I used to. Eliminating the beer and whiskey is proving to be the biggest struggle.

High school & college kids place bicycle parts inside a model submarine, wear scuba tanks for air,
submerge, and pedal as hard as they can to turn the propeller.
I'm on a lo-carb & no junk food eating regime. May return to my successful Atkins diet (modified)
It's the one my brother in Nevada City CA used to take off 60 lbs.
He showed up out of the blue, 60 lbs lighter (pants went from size 42 to 34) and I said I got to try
what he did. It worked and I took off 45 lbs. Most has stayed off but in past 3 years 15 lbs came back.
Key to getting the diet to work is NO CHEATING.

I have found relief from my ice cream habit. It's non fat vanilla yogurt mixed with any breakfast cereal with a high fiber content. Add some fruit if you like. If it absolutely has to be ice cream, I use a hand churned ice cream maker with a removable cylinder that freezes in the freezer, then reassembles with the churn. It's like a soft serve if you eat it when it is made. If you freeze it more, it's more like a popsicle. Making the ice cream is a hassle, I eventually found just the yogurt and the cereal together satisfied my craving. Dannon makes a pretty low calorie non-fat vanilla yogurt. Trader Joe's has the best. I lost about 30 lbs last year by eating the actual serving size they suggest, writing down all that I ate each day, and stopping when my points limit was reached for the day. Christmas and winter, I got back into the sugar... now I'm ready to get back to the routine. I really love riding my bike to work, and look forward to that starting on a regular basis. I get to work pretty happy, compared to how I feel after driving there listening to the news.

I'm down another 2 pounds. This is just from portion control and more salad and soup. No exercise since they did my toe thing.
I'm heavy, I know people look at me and think pizza, cheeseburger, fries and ice cream ... But no, I don't eat like that. I don't snack much and when I do, I've always been very strict about how much and when, even when I was thin. Always have taken the skin off my chicken kinda girl. My pitfall is too much jam on my toast, juice, and chocolate, cookies. I've given up all dairy for some time now as well as all the nightshades. I just don't get the right kinds of carbs, I love starch and sugar. I NEVER binge eat. I get frustrated because I can pack on the pounds eating less than a normal person.
