Help Getting Through a Bad Meeting

Post by flatlander13 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:53 pm

Every Monday at 11:00 AM I have a meeting that is so boring it almost puts me in a coma. Last week I used the trick of touching a 9 volt battery to my tongue to stay awake…….this technique did work and did annoy some people in the room.

Do any of you have a GOOD way to stay awake during a bad meeting? No, not going is not an option…….and jumping out the window from the 3rd floor; even though I have thought about it…….is not an option………..HELP

I say "stick" with the 9 volt. Helps you & that fact that it annoys your co-workers. BONIS! :)

you have to go, but do you have to pay attention? if not ... there's always daydreaming!

if so, doodling always helped me.

Why would you stick a 9 volt battery on your tongue. Why don't you try connecting the wires from 2-9 volt batteries to your nipples. It will keep you awake and not annoy people near you.

I tend to day dream during boring meetings and place myself in some very nice vacation spots.

My trick is to feign interest while I am imagining myself launching across the table and biting the speaker on the nose, or rip his ears off, or to flip the table over and jump through the window.

I also try to think of real pithy things to say if I were to go berserk.

yep doodling works for me. They think you are taking notes, and you can add notes to your pictures if you like. Actually notes keep me from falling asleep even if I don't need to remember anything. I also tally poor diction, misused and mispronounced words. It's kind of like a road trip game, keeps me from kicking the seat too much.

Take notes on peoples body language. That normally keeps me going. Then it looks like you are being productive!! Play games with it. You can normally see who the most dominate person in the room is by watching everyone in the room follow suit to their body language and habits.

haha, this reminds me of college. many pages filled with half sentances that trail off into a squigly line as i dozed of mid sentance.

Depends if there are any hotties at the meeting.

never met with a ceo. Managers generally bring to mind "smug punk" but it's the way it is in my business I guess.

Have you painted eyes on your eyelids?

If you blink, people find it very disturbing.

Take a notebook. Look like you're taking notes, make a to-do list, grocery list, write somebody a letter.

According to Evolutionary Psychologists they are completely interchangible in the minds of women.

She doesn't think much of CEOs I think. ;)

OP, is this one of those meetings where everyone uses their first names only?
