I get lots of muscle exercise in the shop. My problem is lack of cardio. I always park at the top of parking lots because I figure that I could use the exercise, and I try to walk as often as possible but our whole place in the winter is soggy. Kentucky winters are more often 34 degrees and rainy. I think that as the weather clears and it becomes light later in the evening, I’m going to start walking on one of the side roads. Our neighbor, a really wonderful 70+ retired dairy farmer, walks it almost every evening. It has sort of become a ritual in the warmer months that he comes by our place every so often. Last summer, he watched the progress of our porch as we built it and would come over to share stories about the community we live in as it was when he was a boy growing up here. Even stories about our farm house.
But anyways…
I’m not terribly out of shape, I don’t’ think… but I always gain in the winter. I’d like to loose about 10 lbs and get in better cardio shape before The Burn this year. Get ready for all that biking!

i took a walk to the local shopping mall, up the 8 story parking garage, back down, to the post office, through the farmer's market, past several stores, up the parking garage, down the parking garage, through the shoe department at nordstrom, across the street, through the park, and home. about 3 miles plus 2 climbs. and a great view!!
I like this! Maybe my idea wasn't so silly after all!
No workout today for me, but I'm pinching in on the food. Sometimes, when I would have eaten something a month ago, I drink a glass of water instead.
Oh.... Almost forgot.... Hi Stitch! Good to hear from you! I use winter as an excuse to stay away from beer six months at the time -- I call beer a "Hot Weather Beverage". Of course, that means I drink an alarming amount of it on the Playa! LOL!
I don't think a little occational backsliding is fatal to the program. It is the average that matters. A few off days and an occational treat is surely OK -- heck, we are not on this planet to torture ourselves! We'll just keep sneaking along in the generally healthy direction, and progress will definitely be made.

LOL, my backslide consisted of two lemon-ginger cookies, and handful of mac nuts, ten (yes I count them) Doritos, a single serve bag of light popcorn, and a light grazing of the dried fruit/nut bag. Through the day, not in one sitting. I was supposed to have an apple.
And one of which would be an acceptable snack, but horrors! I had more than my allotted two snacks!!!

If it had been me, all those boxes and bags might have been empty by Noon. Taper off to five Doritos by next week, and I bet you'll be golden.
An other thing.... 1.500 calories are actually 1.500.000 calories. What we call Calories in everyday speech, is actually Kilo Calories. That ought to make any calorie-watcher feel better.

I rockclimbed at Planet Granite last night. Did about eight V0 problems, getting better at it, even with a bum knee and ankle.
Then I did a couple of sets of dips and pullups, and a set of clean-and-jerks at about 100 pounds. Finished with wrist curls.
At work from my cubicle to the lab, is about 1/8 mile; with the stairway in between, it's a round trip of about 1/4 mile. I normally do this twice a day - sometimes more if I forget something at my desk!

Fortunately I've never had the "eat until it is gone" habit. I am a nibbler, I will have my tiny portion, then 20 minutes later I will look at the same snack. No, I've already had some of that today... and I move on to the next tasty morsel. At least I get variety! I think mom raised me to never take the last bite or sip of anything, unless I was going to refill or replace it.Elliot wrote:![]()

What has really helped me this time: pre-shredded carrots and bagged spinach. If I buy carrots, they languish and rot. If I buy the shaved down baby carrots, they get slimy after I've had a few servings. Shredded carrots? I eat them on all kinds of food. Same with raw spinach. Now I'm trying to get past whole fruits. I bought an apple slicer, but so far I have done better with pre-sliced apples in tiny bags. More expensive all around, but if it means I'll eat it, then so be it.

Went to the gym today did 30 minutes on the eliptical then 10 minutes on the rotating stairs (until they tried to kill me) weighed myself. So far 8 lbs total lost since Mid-January. If I keep up this progressive loss I will be close to my goal weight in August.
AntiM - I do the same thing with apples. For some reason I will not go through the effort of self slicing but if I have a little baggy of pre sliced apples I will eat them. Not sure why that is other than laziness on my part.

I suppose I am very fortunate that I never started smoking. I tip my hat to those who find the Power in themselves to break that awful addiction.
Rain and work kept me indoors today, but I ate nothing but rice and a little bit of cheese. Rally wanted to run to the store for something tasty, but put it off one more day.
And a glass of Cab. I'm not schtupid.
Good night now.
