New Burner makes his trek from the East Coast (Philadelphia)

Post by eruditus » Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:10 pm

SO I've been thinking about how I would like to visit the desert, no, how I NEED to visit the desert, and a thought struck me - "Holy Shit, I should go to Burning Man!" It's perfect. It's going to prove a challenge but it's this years big goal.

So I was on the site and I read all the first-timer stuff. I started planning what I am bringing. I will be backpacking it, maybe from Reno. I have a few logistical and financial puzzles to solve and I think I will be good to go.

I've signed up for the lists (Jackrabbit and regional) and looking to get involved. I'm also interested in finding ways to reduce costs. I am a new struggling writer and money is tight (as I am certain it is for many of us) so any way I can make the trip more and more financially feasible will be a good thing.

I am looking forward to meeting new friends, being a part of a great new community (well, new to me, lol) rolling my sleeves up and living the Burning Man life!

By backpacking it, do you mean on foot from Reno? Given the amount of supplies/water required, and the terrible HWY 447, that's truly not feasible. Read some more, make some introductions, check out the rideshare possibilities, because I truly promise, you'll need wheels beneath your butt to get to the playa.

Hi Don!

If you can, try and make it to the local regional burn, Playa del Fuego. It happens over the Memorial Day weekend and is only a couple hours away from Philly. The first round of tickets go on sale March 27th!

Hope to see you there!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Due to bad timing I've yet to make it to any local burns or burner events. :(

Yeah, I've scrapped the backpacking plan and I'm looking to get a ride.

Two months, right?
