NY Burners

Post by freeDOOM » Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:01 pm

Anyone here from the NY region?

I've been debating weather to go or not this year for the first time because I would have to make the pilgrimage alone and will have just turned 18 when I depart.

So I was wondering if there are many others from the NY region who make the trek and any advise that they have or just to talk.

Thanks a lot!

I plan on popping my cherry this year. Coming from Long Island.

Still struggling with the details.

My boyfriend and I are coming from NYC. Maybe with a couple of friends, but they may be more interested in talking about it than actually going.

We're not going with a theme camp or a large group. If you (or any lurkers reading this) want to set up some kind of meet up in the area, it would be a great way to meet other ppl before we get out there!

There is a large contingent of NY Burners (Kostume Kult, DisOrient, etc.) that is active year round. Check the regionals board for info....

yeah.....LOVE those guys/gals at Kostume Kult. Fucking HILARIOUS! We got to meet Jillian from there one day chasing moop on the playa (my boyfriend still owes her a "MOOP U" tee)....she's rad.
I know they do fundraisers in NYC all the time.

also....Image Node (or this year they were Genode and a bit hidden). VERY VERY cool theme camp....they are from New york.

In 2008 we met a guy from NY that had bought a ticket on a whim a week before and flew out by himself, rented a car, bought a tent, came on his own and he just FLOURISHED on the playa....it was pretty amazing to watch. He looked us up last year and was camping with a group that only spoke russsian! (he does not).

The thing to remember is not to have ANY expectations and remain OPEN to opportunities.

I'm from Long Island, going for the first time with my boyfriend. Honestly, from all the views I've gotten from people who have gone, it's worth the trek.

There are a hefty amount of New Yorkers I know that are planning to go, but I guess it's too early to be definite. I don't know if you're into the rave scene, but you'll meet alot of burners there. I'm not sure what area of NY you're located, but DisOrient is throwing a Burning Man benefit, BIOLUMINESCENCE II in NYC on the 22nd.

I checked out the regionals board, but if they're active it doesn't seem to be reflected online...

Convenientlust - thanks for the suggestion about Bioluminescence II. I'll try to check that out.

I actually heard about BM through a raver friend. Unfortunately going to the big burn is a pretty expensive endeavor, and most of the party kids I know like to dream about it but don't actually have the wherewithall to make it out to BRC. :-/

I'm in the exact same boat, I'll be going for my first time this year, and will just be turning 18. I'm also from the NY area and would like to get a group together to make the pilgrimage with.
