Burning Man Satirized

Post by lbdavid98 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 10:35 am

Just thought I'd share a link. I'm a birgin, so I can't really assess how near or off the mark the artist comes at various times, but I love seeing references to BM in popular culture 'cause it makes me think of how much I'm looking forward to being there in 2010.

Other references I've noticed in the last few weeks:
The Office: When Michael tells Jim that he believes the baby was conceived in the office, Jim replies that his baby was conceived in a portapotty at Burning Man.

NCIS: During a re-run Ziva asks a dying man where they've met before and he replies: "Burning Man 2002 Extreme Twister Camp?" I laughed, and then I wondered: was there such a camp? Hmmm.

for the record, I watch waaaaay too much TV. Any one else notice references to BM in other places? Obviously Guitar Hero 3 had a venue that referenced BM as well.

Malcolm in the Middle did a whole episode.
Love it when Dad's suburbia attitude is mistaken for performance art.
Worth watching.

Malcolm was pretty good, but my absolute favorite is an episode of Lucy Daughter of the Devil, titled “Temptasiaâ€

There was a bit on Robot Chicken where Bill Clinton steals Air Force One from Bush to go to Burning Man with a bunch of Barbies.

Anthony Bourdain made a reference a while back. Something along the lines of "It's like catching an STD at Burning Man"
I love Anthony Bourdain but couldn't believe he dissed BM. :(

From my experiences, I'm not so sure that's a diss.

For most people, Burning Man is so weird that it's become an analogy for weirdness.

The Reno 911 episode really didn't help either.
