Hellooo from Ann Arbor, Michigan! And we're bringing a maze!

Post by gitnauk » Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:25 am

Hello Burners! Just signed up for this forum and happy to meet anyone on here. I go to the regional events, but I've only been to the big Burn once. And man, did it make an impact. I am so happy to be returning this year.

A bit of the general basics before I get into the maze stuff: my name is Amanda, lived in Ann Arbor nearly 6 years (went to school here). I work in a neuroscience lab, though not for long as I am about to lose my job due to low funding (ah! But hooray healthcare! What great timing).

Actually, a lot of things seem to be converging quite nicely as far as timing goes. I found out I'd be laid off just days after I was informally offered a part time job for a small robotics company. Crossing fingers. (Essentially, they need someone to organize their stuff - a mom who likes electronics. : P Yes, this means they also want me to make sure they eat well.) This gives me the chance to live on a low, low budget and figure out how to be resourceful. This also frees up a lot of my time to work on some projects, which includes a local hackerspace in Ann Arbor called All Hands Active (allhandsactive.com).

Why is this relevant? Welllll, another project is to bring a THEME CAMP that's a LARGE MAZE to Burning Man! (Hopefully being resourceful now comes in handy...) I am a huge fan of community collaborations. I mean really. Nothing makes my day more than seeing many people engaged and creating something larger than they could have done individually, or seeing people learn from one another. (A common sentiment on these boards, I'm sure.) This maze involves people from the local hackerspace, as well as the hackerspace in Chicago. We wanted to bring the maze as an art installation, brought to you by the midwest, but alas, a grant we applied for got turned down. So now we'd like to bring it as a theme camp, and inviting people from all over!
I'd like to discuss the maze on this forum, particularly aiming at two things: a) invite new folks to camp with us, and b) ask questions and advice on theme camps that can't be found on the BM website.

So my first question: where would be the correct place to post stuff on this maze theme camp? : ) We already have a group with a mailing list if you're interested in joining or offering advice there. www.burningmaze.org A kind gent on that list recommended the ePlaya for more advice.

Thanks all, sorry this was a little longer than expected. Hope to meet some good people on here and eventually on the playa!

with love
-amanda-

Second, Welcome to the ePlaya!
First, You should check the Main www.burningman.com page to see the dead lines for placed theme camps, if thats your goal. If you don't plan to be placed, or registered I'd suggest, start reading everything you can.
Another, I'd start posting under the http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=162 page about your theme camp.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Hey! Yup, we're planning to submit our lay out plan, leave no trace plan, and questionnaire by April 29 so we can get placed somewhere.

And thanks for telling me where to post theme camp stuff, I shall do that right away!
