Today, Met opera in HD Hamlet, or Runaways? I need a solid infusion of spirit raising music. Leaning towards Opera, but loud punk rebelliousness appeals as well.
Opera is difficult, but it moves me.
My local theater for Hamlet is sold out, so I need to travel a bit. I'll miss the familiar cadre of elderly Russian ladies. I had poor side front seats for Madama Butterfly, and some yuppie women on cell phones stood next to my seat and carried on conversations about whether the seats were good enough, they should have arrived earlier, was it "worth it" to sit there, "where are you, I'm here" complaining... The lady behind me pointed at the seats and said to them authoritatively, "SIT!" priceless.

I'll be at the circus today and tomorrow working Child ID. We should process several hundred kids. Great program and it's free to the parents.

Received a blood blister last night on the wrong finger to hold up and show people. How? Got caught in a cork puller opening a bottle of wine

What could be more appropriate for a bar than car talk?
Hope the engine work goes well.

You don't need a cartoon today.
I had something fall on my head yesterday, so that should be comical enough to suffice.

Saw elephants, tigers, bears and a pink and a blue poodle today. Saw two dirt bikes in a globe, trapeze artists and a 67 year old man shot out of a canon. The circus was fun. We ID'd 115 kids in my shift. Get to see it all again tomorrow.

Hamlet the opera was wonderful. I really have to put the effort forth to experience opera. It's a challenging adaptation. Since Shakespeare's words are the beauty of the play, they had to capture the spirit of the story and give the beauty to the music. They took some liberties I thought with the sequence and setting, and a lot of the subtext didn't make the transition (it's such a dense play, isn't it? I need to go back and read it now) So it's an involved story for an opera, but they told it well. Hamlet the character had all the questions in his behavior: crazy? cruel? too stressed to cope? melting down, or manipulating? Energy running at setting 11. Ophelia was magnificent and tragic and so so beautiful. Her madness/death scene was the transcendent moment for me. Gertrude schemed and had a cold beautiful pinched look, but sang so wonderfully, and in the end broke down well. The pretender King could have been more evil, or strong. He seemed to play the victim to Hamlet as though he had no culpability at all. All around I found it to be a well acted opera. The set was bare, so bare. I'm getting tired of the minimalist set decorations... I want to see a bit of visual opulence with these shows. Would it hurt? Cool thing about these Met broadcasts is that PBS will likely pick up the tape down the road, and it might air on t.v., also, I think an audio version is available on line, as a recording of a radio broadcast.

Thanks for the review. Very perspicasious. I will definitely try to catch it on a rerun. I too like the grand sets that are so much a part of opera. Bare sets can really be a bore. We saw Tannhauser last year in a "modern" setting and it was not very good. Again, thanks for the review. About twice a year, SF Opera has an opera at the ATT Ball Park for free, simulcast from the Opera House. Have gone twice and lived it. Sights and sounds are wonderful. About 25,000 turn out!

Not too bad a trip from San Jose, so you should try to make it

Piney, you are right, the energy gets to be the short commodity. You sound to me like an energy machine. After a few hours of tennis, I barely have the energy to throw some pots. Got to take a short nap to recharge.

Now, YG, there is a real bundle of energy. Hey buddy, how about a cup of coffee and an Ellorum delectable this morning. Let's invite Little Flower and some of the other ladies to join us for a cuddle in the NEB. Now there is an idea! Bet Gyre and GH won't object to that!

PM made coffee this morning, but, I'm still on tea.

So, over in the introduction forums I said something about OED, and that set me to wondering if we should have a "Field Guide to the Eplayans" thread.
