Hotfix rhinestones - does the glue give out on the Playa?

I'm BLING! So, my costumes are Bling-y. I bought a Bejeweler tool and ordered some hotfix gems to use with it, but was wondering if anyone has DONE this? It'd be nice NOT to spend a week scooping Swarovski crystals out of the dust!

I don't have any experience with a bejeweler, but last year I hot glued little jewels to a mirror frame (plain white seemed, well, unseemly). They popped off after the second day on the playa and they weren't even in the sun! That mirror will not be making another trip the playa. If I have room this year I will bring one of my heavy plain wall mirrors.

Hot glue doesn't seem to hold very well for me. YMMV.

Interesting. I've Googled hot glue on the Playa, and most people seem to have pretty good luck with it. I got some glow-in-the-dark dots (like the stars--hard plastic; can't drill through it to sew them on), and am planning to hot glue them onto my jacket.

I guess the hotfix crystals can go through the dryer, which can get up to 175Â°, so I'm crossing my fingers that they'll stay put, or I'll be spending the week on my hands & knees picking up crystals!

Hot glue does well enough on fabric, but will release on smoother surfaces such as metal or paint.

Thanks, AntiM. I'm just using it on fabric--but those plastic disks are pretty smooth. They may fall off. They're BIG though--over an inch--so, easier to find in the dust!

Hot glue gets soft or releases in very hot weather. I watched a huge commercial floral piece let go because it was placed on the mantel above a fireplace. If you use a good glue that is not heat sensitive, you won't worry about it.

There are a few good glues made specifically for adding bling such as "Jewel It". They are made for a lot of surfaces including fabric, plastic, etc... Even "Tacky Glue" is better than just heat set fastening.

That way if you drop them, some hipster in DPW can stick them in random ear- or face-holes. Glue-on jewelry isn't so recyclable.

We ArtCar folks use 100% silicone as our main adhesive. It is weather resistant and remains flexible in all situations. For clothing, get a small hand-squeeze tube rather than one of the big ones you need a caulk gun for. I have spots of silicone on my studio clothes that have been on there for years, through all types of weather and in the washer and dryer. You can't get this stuff off, unless...you use rubbing alcohol.

A possible simple soluction might be to just score the backs of them to ceate texture
