wave projector?

Post by Megalion » Tue Apr 06, 2004 3:19 pm

I have no idea what the proper name for this thing is but I was at Sea World this weekend and in their shark encounter... you walk through tunnels painted a deep seagreenblue and they have these special projectors mounted that make the walls look like moving water...

How much are these and what the heck are they called so I know what to look for!!

You can adapt a lamp with a spotlight bulb, sending light thru a clear glass or plastic tray of water on a rocking platform. It might not be necessary to add movement to the tray, depending upon how it's placed.....

American DJ makes such a device that projects a 'rippling' effect that looks pretty darn good:

It's compact, easy to set up and pretty reasonable cost.

There are other theatrical methods that do get more expensive and are a bit more complicated to setup, let me know if you're interested...

Be advised that such machines typically do not have a rated duty cycle anywhere near 100%. In fact, most are only meant to be on briefly, then turned off for a bit to cool down. I burned one up last year by leaving it on for ~2 hours. At least bring spare bulbs (I did not). regards, Jafe

hey Jafe, I have needs to cast a focused lighting effect (one that will cast sharp shadows) on a 12x9 screen for the duration of the evening. Any thoughts on a device that will be robust enough?
