Going home for the first time

Post by Lis0r » Sun Mar 28, 2010 7:11 pm

Hey guys! I'm Lisa, I'm from Vancouver, Canada. This is going to be my first year out on the Playa.

My best friend has gone for the past few years, and every year more and more of my friends from Vancouver and Seattle take the plunge. I spent last year watching the PlayaCam, and watching the Man burn from my living room. I swore that this year was going to be different.

Another reason that I was so hell-bent to go this year is because I lost a friend around new years who was a Burner. Him and I had talked about me possibly going with him and his crew this year. Now he's gone, but I swore to him that I would watch the Man burn for both of us this year. His family has also said that they will give me some of his ashes so that he can go home one last time.

I would also like to try and put together a video essay about Burning Man and what it is that keeps people going back year after year. I'd also like to be able to explain to those who don't understand what it is that makes Black Rock City so special.

Anyways, long-winded I know. I hope to meet you out on the Playa! :)

Welcome Lisa. I'm glad you're going to make it finally. I hope you get a chance to visit the Temple of Remeberance. You can leave a note or other items for your friend that passed away.

I'm sure you'll have a great time and you'll be wondering what took so long. Keep reading and hopefully we'll be seeing you in just 5 months!

Welcome home sweetheart! Thank you for your tribute to a burner. You are always welcome at Jungle Camp to stop by and pass some time in the shade.

Hi Ozzy, Welcome to eplaya.

And Razorcakes, I hope you make it to the Temple as well. We had the (albeit sad) honor of placing a Burner friend's ashes in the Temple one year. We did this with his sister and brother, who were not burners until that time, their first trip to Burning Man, to bring their sibling home.

We watched it go up in flames and they wept and let him go. We all wept.

Welcome Home.

The temple is a necessity for me, for a multitude of reasons.

As for the video essay, I will absolutely post it here! I want as many people as possible to see it and experience going home for the first time all over again! :)

No MOOP worries from this girl. I don't live in Surrey by choice, let me tell you. It's financial necessity. :P
