Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hey Jungle, welcome, hope to see you on the playa this year!

I have been twice, and both times went with a group of friends. But I know plenty of people that like to do the solo thing, it forces them to be more social and active in their community... But it is also nice to link up with some people that have experienced a week in the desert before, and can help you in your preparation! First year, I would recommend joining a group of burners near you. You can either try for a registered theme camp and probably pay some camp dues, and different camps offer different amenities, so see what they offer. Or you can just look for a local group of people that are friendly and inviting for you to set up shop next to!

Last year I invited a virgin into my camp, I met him on craigslist, and we did a ride share from Denver. Sorry, no room in the camp this year or I'd invite you... I think driving with someone is a good idea, because then you at least know one person pretty well before you even get there, and you can really feed off of each others anticipation for the week to come while you make the LONG drive! But for some people the time it takes to drive across country is not possible, so to each their own... But the guy that joined my camp last year basically did his own thing, had his food and water, and he was basically just a neighbor, but when we were going out at night as a group, or if there was something cool going on that we thought he might not know about, we would bring him along! That is one of the big plusses of finding people to camp with, because no one person can know every thing that is happening out there!

Find some helpful and friendly camp mates, and I bet they will help you through the whole thing! Most camps have someone throw together a basic packing list for everyone, group and personal. Get a good list, find people to camp with, meet them before hand, and every thing else should fall into place!

Welcome Jungle Movement!
I think the solo-mission could end up being more amazing. I've considered it.
Greenthumb makes some good points about camping with a theme camp- it would make flying a whole easier. But if its your first year don't get yourself to obligated to do anything. Their is so much to see and do, its hard to guarantee you'll be doing anything at any point in time.

Greenthumb,
You still in CO? last time we talked, you were talking about moving. You busy on April 13th or 17th?
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Hey illy, yeah, still in CO, but I think I'm heading to Portland after the burn. And sorry, but I don't remember talking to you, who is this? And I am busy both those days, just started a new job. In training now, but my regular schedule starts next week, Sun. and Mon. off
