Stagger In!! Stag Camp 2010
As a service to those persons interested in joining the stag camp family, and would like to know what Stag is about and the general guidelines of being a "stagger" this post is for you.
A brief history- Stag camp was originally founded by a small group of core members, (Mots,Steve,Plowman, Somnivore and others) who were attending BM in '07 with no affiliation to a theme camp, mainly coming solo, and wanted other people to set up camp with and still be able to remain autonomous at BM and still have other people to socialize with, and look out for each other at BM. On E-Playa, the Stag family blossomed to around 50 people who were also flying solo, many of which were first time burners and enjoyed the prospect of being in the company of other solo campers who were seasoned BM vets to support a basic camp support network. The camp was an incredible success and formed lifelong bonds within the Stag family. and is projected to nearly double in size this year. The great success of Stag Camp can mainly be attributed to the ideals and philosophies of it's founding fathers (..and mothers) that will, and must, be embraced by all Stag brothers and sisters for '10. Again, this is mainly meant to paint a picture of what you can expect around Stag camp and from the people within it, as well as what is expected of you.
So- Here than are some guidelines-...
1- Absolutely no violence of any kind will be tolerated at Stag. We are a family, and even if your goofy uncle annoys you, you do not use violence towards that uncle..( I am being metaphorical here, but you get the picture..)
2- Absolutely no type of harassment will be tolerated at Stag camp. Stag was 50% female last year, and part of all people feeling comfortable was that we show due respect to the opposite sex as well as each other at Stag. We are brothers and sisters first, husbands, wives, lovers and partners an extremely distant second.
3- Respect each others personal space. We all co-exist at Stag in a small space, and though someones space may look inviting, that does not mean you are invited into it. We will have our "public" chill spaces for all of us where we can enjoy each others company, but we don't pop into some one else' tent unannounced.
4- All Staggers are entitled to complete autonomy. No one is under any obligation to join in any event, discussion, outing, or the like. We all come and go as we please.
5- Watch out for your family. As a basic philosophy Staggers look out for each other on the playa as well as camp. This means when some brutal sand storm rapes camp and you are caught out on the playa, don't worry your family will make sure you stuff doesn't get blown away, but by the same token if the same event occours and you are in camp it's your duty to your family to pitch in and help batten down the hatches.
6- Staggers are self reliant. No camp member is required to provide food, supplies or shelter to any other camp member, though it is extremely common, and all Staggers should arrive with whatever they need for the harsh environment unless other arrangements have been made.
7- Common areas are common responsibility. If you use a common kitchen, clean up after your self unless you are bringing your mom solely for this purpose.
8- Be considerate to your other camp brothers and sisters at all times. Yes, we all at one time or another will stagger (..no pun intended) into camp at 3a.m. to resupply and go back out till sunrise, but just assume someone is sleeping and be considerate in this and all other applicable situations.
9- Be prepared to be open and honest. Part of what makes Stag such an incredible group of people to be among is that we all are approachable by the rest of the flock so expect to slide your doors of communication wide open.
These are just the basics of Stag Philosophy. Hold them close to your heart, and they will serve you well.
We are currently open for new members, come check us out at http://stagcamp.proboards.com/index.cgi and register for the site to start receiving our emails. Or check out our previous year threads. We will have open registration until around late June as we approach our critical mass of 100 members.

We don't have dues as we don't officially provide services for the camp members. That being said camp members do bring infrastructure for the sole purpose of having it being used by the group. I bring a shade structure for group shade, TJ brings tunes and it ends up being a typical community camp where people contribute and help where they can.C.f.M. wrote:I like the sound of it. Down-to-earth n'shit. I'd totally think about applying, but I'm poking around for a camp I can afford that also amenities I can't provide for myself.
Join us in the chat window on the before mentioned site and one of us can talk with you about logistics and potentially helping you out with things you can't bring.

That really is the core principle of Stag Camp. Wohoo!C.f.M. wrote: - as we're both looking to be with awesome people not telling us what to do.
The chat box thing at the bottom of each page on the site works no matter if you are registered or not. Feel free to shout out there anytime. There is usually some kind of activity there in the evening. Hopefully one of the mods sees your activation email soon and you will be good to go with the rest of the site.
Welcome aboard!

I don't do theme camps - except for CampCamp this past year.
She did Camp Shit Sandwich...ha!
Anyways. She lives in her van and is a dirty ol' hippie, but I'd like a bit more interaction and support after a dismal virgin year in 2009...the point being I sent her the link, and she said "That sounds awesome."
So we'll see...

Sorry you had a tough first year C.f.M. Virgins thrive in Stag Camp so lets see about making it a do over. There are always people to hang out with in group shade and small groups heading out on adventures frequently. Assistance with anything is usually a trip to group shade and a call out for help. One of us will surely be able to help out.
We do have some structured activities like the meet and greet which will be followed by a general party with music, dancing and grilled cheese making and gifting. It is totally optional to attend anything going on in camp but the meet and greet is fun and the ensuing party is the highlight of many a stagger's week.
Ha ha ha. Chocolate and caramel make me surly.

As a returning stagger, 09 was my virgin year, I have to say that Stag is a wonderful way to get introduced to the burn. I found a wonderful family with these people. If you think this sounds like a place for you...please come on over to the stag site, pm one of us with questions, or post here! Newbies to the group are what makes the ever evolving Stag camp so great!!!! Much love!!
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!

2nd timer...
Your camp intrigues me. How do we find out more and register. I checked out your website the other day but was a bit confused by it. I am a newbie to the whole message board thing and don't really get the point, but alas I am here to find my people and my camp. :)

Welcome onelanaluv,
We have the message board to plan and chit chat on. Since Staggers come from all over the world we have it as a place to get to know each other preburn and catch up with friends from burns past. The content in the various threads is the meat of Stag Camp and the chat box is the place where chit chat conversations take place. I'm not very good at technology so I took me a while to get used to it and I still am figuring out how to use it better. The easiest way for me to see what has been happening recently is to hit that small link that says "last 10 posts" or something like that. It is in one of the boxes right above the chat box. Kind of a recent activity thing. If you have trouble navigating the site just shout out you questions here and someone will be along shortly to answer them.
Basically we have a camp where everybody is radically self reliant and respectful of personal boundaries. We strive very hard for this. Oh and....No drama and no Sparkle Ponies. We don't have dues or mandatory participation in any aspect of camp. We expect all camp members to be guided by the 10 principles and especially pay attention to the no moop/never let it hit the ground thing. There are numerous projects in camp that you can join in if you want to lend a hand. Most of them focus around the party on Tuesday and Thursday night.

The msg board is a bit tricky. Without looking through everything, you have to click on "10 most recent posts."onelanaluv wrote:Your camp intrigues me. How do we find out more and register. To reply, and not lose that list, I clicked "open in new tab" to reply - and, as far as I can tell, it isn't as active as eplaya.
The insta-chat is an awesome feature, but not for us on EST time.
