Favorite camps last year?

Mmmmm... I was just reminiscing with a playa friend, and we talked about all the great camps we went to. What were some of your favorites?

I loved Flight to Mars. As soon as I thought I had been everywhere in there, I discovered there was more.

It's not exactly a camp of its own, but the lone couch in the middle of the playa was great- provided a nice cusion for my tired butt and blistered feet (damned boots- next year it's sandals and Dr. Bronners all the way through)

There are more but...I think next year I'll stay sober more often...heehee

Shambalaya Mythical Creature Rodeo and Round-Up-- Just the name alone made folks back home giggle.

Complete with ride'em springy dragons, and for the really brave, a bucking flying piggie.

Ahh, the memories....

before the event officially opened I spent a few nights in the big Blue House dome. It was super mellow, stocked bar, and day beds. Fucking day beds! After working all day our set up crew would tool over there for a nice quiet chill out. Met some ultra nice folks from seattle as well. Shared my big coat with one too many folks and it grew legs. Playa miracle of last year: I got it back on Saturday night, a week later. Unfortunately, later in the week the dome got ultra loud and ultra meet market.

too many to remember....but I did enjoy Bollywood and Space Virgins at night and hanging out at the Meat Inspection Station during the day to watch all the growers and showers. Just because I am a Tofu Head dosen't mean I don't enjoy a little (or big) meat every once in a while.

of course i always enjoy the big high-production value camp that make you feel like you're at the best party in the world, but year after year i walk away from the playa with my favorite camps being the smaller ones.

last year i really appreciated the absinthe bar. quiet, mellow atmoshere and the varieties of absinthe a real treat for the senses.. a very luxurious experience.

and i also loved flattery camp.. i like camps with a simple, effective and original theme. they were fun. they gave me cheese crackers.

last year we had great neighbors: touch of candy (cutest ladies ever) and club verboten (hello? marathon of gary numan's 'cars'?.. i call that genius!)

in 2002 we had a radio station next to us, radio dyonisis. it was basically generic house, but with the funniest running commentary ever over it.

i miss spectator camp.. another simple, hilarious, effective idea. they sat on the esplenade in bleachers and, well, spectated, heckling through a megaphone as they did.

and, oh god! two years ago! the ms. pac man camp was awesome! kudos to them for the funnest ever idea.

yay fun camps. it's fun when it's fun. wee.

marathon of gary numan's 'cars'

holy shit, was that the orgiginal version only or did they play all the remixes as well?

Last year, many camps adopted their local pottie cluster, and did a fine job. My all time favorite of these is Audacity Camp (out next to Jiffy Lube). They set up folding chairs outside the pottie bank, and had cardstock numbers. The "M.C." had a megaphone, and did this gameshow/olympic event commentary while his campmates, armed with cards, would "rate" the poopers on their pottie etiquette. It was HILARIOUS!
They were featured in a Gazette article -- the Chupacabra Policia edition, if you want to learn more.
They also were a chill space for me while I was on Poop Patrol. Boy Howdy I needed their relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and they were always so cool about my requests for water/cigarettes/hugs when I was so bone tired.

only the original.. over and over and over and over. ah yeah.

and i am a champion, because i still love the song. the rest of my campmates had about reached their threshhold, but not i.

Have to step in here at the risk of exposing Zorro and his agenda.We played "Cars" a total of 16 times.It was not exactly a Marathon.You HAD to stop by and REQUEST it.And we did play the live version once.Really upset the requestor.He wanted only the original version.But if you want to bring those remixes over Stuart,please do,it's on again.

The tiny, elegant Armadillo Bar. I especially liked the fountain, and the drinks were extra yummy.

Lite Bright Camp (looked so good)
Syberia (the all white tractor trailer with blasting airco and dj and dance floor inside)
Deep End (our friends, goin 24/7 for about a month...yes BM is only a week)
Pinkys (of course)
Church of Wow (wow visuals)
Sol System (sick music)
El Circo (so damn hedonistic, I thought I was in hell where all the od'd ravers went)
Beyond Beauty (our neighbors with the confessional massages and facials etc.)
Joy!camp (my joyful camp)
Lamplighters (me and my fiance watched the sunrise amid slumbering lamplighters in their observation tower)
