Aussie Burner seeking group/camp to join and advice

Post by booyahpixie » Wed Apr 14, 2010 2:48 pm

Hi

My name is Thea. I went to a few Burner parties in NYC last year whilst studying in the States and totally loved the community! I'm heading over on a quick visit for a cousin's wedding on 28 Aug and my boss has just allowed me to extend my leave so I can attend Burning Man!! Yaaayyyyy!! :D

I am hoping to make some friends here to be able to connect with at Burning Man. One issue is I'm not exactly sure how I will be able to prepare for a week in the desert! I'll be arriving in San Fran on 27 Aug with family obligatoins for possibly 3-4 days. I'd love it if anyone could advise how I can get supplies from San Fran to Black Rock City (hire a car, share a car, go in a group??). I'd also love to go in a group or as part of a theme camp. I'm definately prepared to participate and be part of the team - no piggy back riding for me! If someone(s) were able to assist me with obtaining supplies, accom, water etc, I'd be super greatful.

A little about me... I'm 28, quirky fun female with a responsible side. I work full time in the public service and study part time - Sociology and Gender, Sexuality & Culture are my majors. In fact, I'm writing an essay on Burning Man as an act of resistance for a Sociology class! I understand and respect the principles of Burning Man and am very excited at the chance to be involved!

Floating on a dream and hoping for some angels to guide me! I look forward to making new friends.

Love long and skip free :-)

First Rule: Don't ask us to write your paper. You'll get guff and plenty of it. (Just a friendly warning, we get those posts with some consistency. I think that tucked into the end, with a firm commitment to attend means that you won't get a lot of that.)
If you stay on the board and work the ride boards you'll be able to find people to camp with (Look at the Stagger In thread over in the 2010 camps section for a start,) a ride, and food and water brought in. These may end up being from multiple sources. Which will become logistical issues. It might be easier, if you are not coming in with your food and equipment, if the people who are bringing it are in placed theme camps, then you know where they are, even if they don't know who you are.
Bah! I'm not explaining well.

Welcome to Eplaya!
Ahhh....hm. Fishy got it. Wish I could help, but my base o' operations is here in Reno NV, so I just haul all my junk with me. But aye, get out there and make some friends! I wish I could help more people haul things, but my space is always limited/my hauling capacity is that of an African swallow.

G'luck, and have a happy burn! Oh! And good luck with that paper! I always love to read peoples thoughts and opinions on Burning Man. Almost never the same, no matter what! Even if the person that's writing the paper was right next to you the entire time, haha.

Haha - hells no I'm definately not asking anyone to write my essay for me! :P I've been totally enjoying researching the topic and have more than enough to say - I'm kinda pinged that I can't write more! I love writing about things I enjoy, and yes there is a variance of interpretations of the event in academialand. Burning Man is something I heard about with so much love and joy whilst I was in the States and am sooooo excited my boss let me extend my leave to actually join! Oooohhh, I cant wait! Thanks for your posts! :-D

That's majorly kickass how your boss let you have so much extra time off, and majorly lucky on the being over here when lé Burning Man is going on!
I speak with joy about it when-ever I can....always makes me misty eyed and super happy.

As well as bacon.
OH! Bring bacon! It's an important key element of all things in the universe.
*Nods vigorously*

Unless you're a vegetarian. Then I'm not sure what the important key element is of all things in the universe!

That'll be one hell of an essay. Talk about one place were gender, sexuality, and culture are unique.

Probably not your mouth, just your fingers. Unless you're using a talk-to-type.

I'm not in favor of either.

I am in favor of bacon or jerky in any flavor though.
