Welcome and congratulations on your comitment to attending the 2010 event.
My advice for you is that your friend will start to have second thoughts on going and will leave you hanging. Prepare for this and have a back up plan to go anyway. This happens all the time and the excuses start pouring out. Money, work, family, time, car troubles, rashes, illness, locusts etc. Go anyway, you'll have the most amazing time of your life and you will have endless stories to tell your friend and dozens of picurtes to show. Your friend will make it in 2011---guarenteed!
Try to meet up with other local burners and make some friends who have been before.
See you on the playa. :D

Hello all thank you for the advice so far!!! I am from Los Angeles. I really hope my friend won't bail out on me!!! =/ But I am going anyway... I looked at some youtube videos and the place and people and the energy look amazing and I can't wait to be there...
How long ahead do you usually plan this trip? I was reading the first timer guide and there are so many things to remember what to do's and what not to do's... I'm getting anxious!!!!! =) All good.... Peace-

remember that preparation can be part of the fun. So don't stress too much. water keys wallet shade shelter food hat sunscreen goggles ticket good attitude, then embellishment to add to the fun.

That is exactly how I'm trying to prepare so I don't get too excited. Great advice!

I thought that being committed meant that I was wearing that top with extra-long sleeves.

Oh oh oh!
I have a suggestion!

Don't worry, be happy. ^^/
And more or less don't stress, and as a very good book says "Don't Panic." Also make lists, and if you're cramming everything into a small car, do a test drive around the block/city a few times before you go to make sure something doesn't happen.

Short story: First year going out there, my car was crammed FULL. Luckly I did a test-drive around the block to make sure my car could handle the weight. It did....BUT...the contents all shifted, and two of my water-jugs BURST. Had I not tested it, I would have arrived on the playa down 10 gallons of water.

So test....and test again! Then test again...and after the third time, just assume it'll probably go wrong and carry a roll of Duct-Tape with you.
Remember: Carry your towel with you where-ever you go, and watch for trunks with many little legs!

Find the list of themecamps from last year on the main website. Pick out a few that look interesting and using the email contact send them a nice e-mail about why you're interested and what you have to offer.
Some do post on this board and might be looking for people and say so; it's perfectly okay to respond to that. Others may be invitational only.

From the burningman website here,
press the "campmates" link here.
Then, from the maroon box on the upper right, follow the link to for the last year's theme camp list.
