Hephastus was the blacksmith of the Greek gods. He was lame and he was paired with Aphrodite, goddess of beauty.

Ogun is the blacksmith god of the Nigerian Yoruba. He's lame and he is paired with the goddess Osshun. Yes, she's the goddess of love and beauty.

Wasn't there a Norse myth about a lamed blacksmith?

It was Volund or Weyland. Not Thor, but Volund followed the pattern of Hephastus and Ogun. For some damn strange reason.

And Hel. I'm pretty sure that he's the father of Hel. And the mother of Slepnir, as I understood it. Yeah, that giant horse that he lured away from the building of Valhalla was the father. I love tricksters. Except when they are teaching me a lesson...

While your grasp on your own religion is going to be tighter than mine, I don't know how Odin/Woden is a trickster. Although I have a great deal more respect for him than for that puffed up piece of greecian self-involvement Zeus. You get respect for hanging yourself from the world ash for three days and giving away an eye for knowledge.

IIRC, he hung from Yggdrasil for 9 days............to gain the knowledge of the Runes, and, traded the eye for knowledge/wisdom.

The natural gods seem to be much more interesting. The synthetic gods are boring. Yahweh is the exception. He's far too bloodthirsty though. J C and Buddha seem particularly weak. Reportedly, J C kicked the money changers out of the temple. You know that he got his ass kicked afterwards. Buddhists seem to get walked on a lot. Tibet being the latest example.
The natural gods were rarely affected by the actions of men.
Western man is of the assumption that he has nature well under control and there is NO need to worship or appease the natural gods.
We've negated the gods of the earth. Apparently, Aphrodite has been replaced by little pictures of dead presidents.
The synthetic gods all seem to grab center-stage and demand that all others are cast out. Yahweh said that he was a jealous god.
The natural gods were a clan that didn't demand fidelity. After all, if you're a god, what do you care what mere mortals do?
The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost,,, the current trifecta has no interest in the earth, the elements, the energies or the seasons. What good is a synthetic god that ignores the natural world?
The natural gods represented everything that we needed to survive. The synthetic gods ignore this. The synthetic gods are arbitrary, elusive and jealous. Not my type.

On a frosty winter’s night:
A wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman carrying pioneers to the frontier. A young woman in the party called Delia was heavy with child and though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year, none had lain with her; though she was comely.

And on this frosty winter’s night, young Delia’s water broke almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon. And the pioneers beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there. But, due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full. So there in the stable among the feed and tack and whatsit she gave birth to a son whom she called Alvis. As was her want.

And since none of the men in the party was the father, it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle! And it was so, for above the fort there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet! And so brilliant was its light that there came from all the tribes that the soldiers had not yet decimated: shamens!
And they rode upon buffalo, as was their heathen custom, carrying offerings of whiskey and firearms. And when the shamens saw the child, they were in awe! For he glowed in a light that was truly not of this world!
