Winnemucca?

Post by theBrooke » Thu Jun 10, 2004 1:42 pm

So this year I'm going to get a room in Winnemucca on Labor day. It's just shy of halfway home for us, and as I have learned previously 7+ days in the tent makes the 10-11 hour drive home almost impossible without a good night of rest and a shower. Any suggestions on hotels/casinos? I've never stayed there... Expedia shows Winners Casino having some extremely cheap rooms, is this place scary? How about food... any hotels with good food? I'm trying to keep it college at this point (cheap), but any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Winners is actually a really nice place. I have stayed there several times. You might check on availability for that weekend, however. I could be wrong, but I thought the town was having Cowboy Day's or some other celebration that weekend. Good food in that town. Besides the inexpensive casino food, they have a few Basque restaurants.

Cool, expedia says they have rooms and they are like $35 for 2 queen beds... verry cheap. I will probably book that pretty quick, unless anyone have any other input?

Thanks,
B

We stayed at a place called Model T I think. It might be a Quality Inn. I thought it would be expensive, but it wasn't too bad. The restaurant had a good dinner special, and there was an A&W's in there and a small casino. Also lots of parking and a small coin operated laundry and an outdoor pool. Was probably a little more expensive than Winners. It was right across the street from Albertson's grocery store I think. We plan to go back this year, but we haven't made reservations yet. I think we will likely hit it both the night before we go to the playa and the night we leave the playa. A hot shower and a comfy bed before and after a long road trip are very good things! And I need to wash off the playa dust before I spend 3 days in the car.

I haven't heard anything bad about Winners, but I really liked the Model T.

The Model T is also a good place to stay. It is on the West side of town and is easy to find as well. Actually everything in that town is easy to find.

I just wish there was a place that sold water, like Water Mart in Reno, when I have my own containers.

If you are not too particular, the Truckee River runs near there.

Actually the river that runs near Winnemucca is the Humbolt River, but who is taking notes?

I knew that, I was just testing you. Maybe that's why it is Humbolt County?
