somethin to say

Post by VeganChoirGirl » Wed Apr 28, 2010 1:28 pm

Ok little girl. First I want to say I am sorry, I stopped reading the thread after about six posts....but I was so annoyed I had to post something. Motz WARNED you people would be snarky. Dozens of virgins just like you ask for help on assignments every year. These people are a) probably a bit bored with it and b) a little amused that you didn't want to come up with your own thesis. Everyone has the right to post what they want, just like you called cfm a bitch and eplaya didn't take it down. Frankly, your attitude totally turned me off. Maybe at some point in the thread you redeamed yourself, but it seems far more likely that you are a giant sparkle pony who has no business coming to an event that is all about radical self reliance. I don't intend to be mean here, but maybe if eplayans call you on the bull shit...you'll see what you need to do to make it out to the playa. I am sorry for being so out there with this...
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!

So, yeah, I have a question. The most important question in this discussion so far:

Holy fuck! They give Scholarship tickets for a 3-page paper?!

I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of dollars participants will spend on art, booze, food and gifts for people this year and still have to buy tickets.

I'm not trashing on Squeak, I'm saluting her for fucking the man. How do you do that? "Hi, I've never been to Burning Man but I want to write a short essay for my class, so, can I have a ticket?" WAY cooler than arson!
haha no. The paper has nothing to do with the Scholarship ticket.

:/ I like how everyone thinks I am asking for a thesis. Which I am not. I was asking for help on a question. A basic question to just get started with . An idea. Not my fucking thesis. :/
None of you really seem to understand what I am looking for. And that is fine. Whatever. Just please I am sick of you guys feeling like you have to attack me. So please stop :/

And wtf is a sparkle pony? Some of you are so judging.

Yes, Piney is right, do relax. Embrace the snark, come over to the dark side. I think she has cookies.

What I will be interested in is your perspective after the event and how you would write your paper differently. Would make a great blog journey.
I actually have to write to Burning man after I come back about my experience since I got a scholarship ticket. c:
Here, try this. Write down what you think Burning Man is about RIGHT NOW, before you go. Then seal that away, and don't look at it until you get back. Then write about how you had NO IDEA! I promise you'll have a revelation.

"What is a sparkle pony?"

Let the Good Doctor answer this one. You may well be one, can't say for sure, but a sparkle pony is someone who shows up to TTITD, with tons of costumes and glowstix and boas and love! But no food, water, shelter, or certainly not enough. "Oh, the playa will provide!" Uh, no, it won't. You will find yourself tripping on E, dehydrated, and full of love until you end up for the third or fourth time in the med tent. You are a clueless newbie (or veteran, but most veterans would have died the first time around) who thinks that getting wasted and laid at TTITD is just so beautiful. Might I suggest you do some research, like looking up under 2009 Theme Camps for "Sparkle Pony Corral" and learn for yourself. I swear girlie, you are too clueless to go to the desert. Now that said, you want to see the back of my RV?

self reliance

Post by VeganChoirGirl » Wed Apr 28, 2010 1:52 pm

Maybe if you used a little radical self reliance and looked it up you would find out what a sparkle pony is...let me give you a hint; it's not good. And we aren't judgemental, we are excercising our radical self expression. :-) everyone is welcome on the playa. All I am saying is, from your attitude and approach, you don't seem ready. I suggest you take some time to read the survival guides, read every post you can on eplaya, and get to know the attitude of these people. A loving and caring, if sarcastic and snarky. It's part of the experience.

Her attitude is better than the ones coming in looking for free tickets - at least she's posted more than once!

Also, I prefer "cunty jackass," not bitch.

I think three pages might be too long for this submission, and even though I have great love for C.f.M. and the others who posted up here, I will go against the grain and help you start your paper;

Dear Penthouse,

I accepted the invite into the back of Dr. Pyro's RV, and when I arrived there....

I am sorry that you did not find what you are looking for here. I would be inclined to help you but, the attitude that you gave to some regulars prohibits me from assisting you. I have to ask you a question, Is this your first time posting on an internet message board? I am a longtime member of many many boards. Every single board that I belong to has a core group of members that love to make fun of one another. Usually, the community of those boards will decide if they accept a new member by how they can take the "poking fun" and how they give it back. Coming in here with your, "You guys are mean assholes" attitude did not help you any. Are you not experienced with sarcasm? It's pretty funny if you, "get it". I think that there is still time to change people's opinions/attitudes towards you. Simply, just stop being so defensive at every turn.

I'm not getting the sparkle pony vibe. My opinion: she's putting it into a context she finds comfortable. I don't think it will entirely serve her purpose as intended, but it is her starting point.

And she hasn't stomped off, even with eplaya's finest dishing it out. Of course, she may have everyone plonked. In which case, she's smarter than some of us.

If this same tenacity is applied to learning what's here, what's in the survival guide, and makes it into concrete supplies and plans, she will be alright.

Besides, none of us would let even the sparkliest pony die out there. You know that's true.

None of you seem to understand :/

I apologize for the confusion; I in no way want anyone to write my thesis. I am here hoping experienced burners can help send me in the right direction. I don't really need anyone to give me answers just a little help since I am unfamiliar with the ecology of the event. I am not even sure what I should be asking due to my lack of experience. I plan to correct that as I have received a scholarship ticket this year and found a camp. But I am hoping to learn more about the Burning Man event before I arrive on the playa.

I had a little help coming up with this question “What kind of environmental impact does 50k people coming to a remote place for seven days have?" It relates to the topic of Global Warming/Consumerism/etc as well as Burning Man.
I have little knowledge on environmental impact, almost as little as I do on Burningman.I am thinking that maybe a good starting point would be trash, it seems like Burningman would generate a lot of trash, right? and even though I am aware of leave no trace, what is done about the trash when people leave? I read that some people just toss it on the side of the highway. And what is done with stuff just left behind by assholes?
I have come up with these questions to help me research so far, and I am looking for other ideas as we post. Which was all I was asking for. Some ideas, some questions, some thoughts to work with.

Ugh, I'll be helpful...
on the BM site you will find a link for "trash" there is alot of info there about where to take your trash and recyclables post-event, and how much place usually charge for trash. Also on the way out there are a number of locals that say bring your trash here, $X.XX per bag.
the trash on the side of the road is most likely from people not securing the trash to their vehicles and it blowing off.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

If you dig up the afterburn reports on the Main Site, there is information about the very things you are asking about. So do the links in the survival guide and required reading. Learn about the Earth Guardians. Learn about the LNT ethic and practice. Read about the post event MOOP maps.

When you've exhausted that reading, then I (and maybe others) will be more likely to contribute. You may have to dig a little, but not really. Just click on the Burning Man logo in the upper left hand corner and go for it.

lol. ok c:
Dougly's suggestion is excellent on snark-free levels. It might be an interesting experiment even for non-burners.

Burning Man is utterly ephemeral. The Black Rock Desert will grind your feces, spilled oil, peanut shells, cigarette butts, rubbers and playa urine down to the same dust that claimed natives, pioneers, emigrants, wagons, oxen, woolly mammoths and saber toothed cats. A lot of people think Burning Man stopped being "an experimental community" a long time ago, but, that's wrong. We ARE the experiment as long as we keep returning.

David Best said that Burning Man starts as soon as you leave your driveway to go to the desert. You can interpret that to mean that even if you're the coolest, greenest LNT kid on the playa, if you're a total consumerist asshole and trash-dumping prick on the way there and back, you've totally missed the point.

It's a party in the desert. Survivalists don't wear pink thongs and dance on buses covered in fake animal fur. The Donner ordeal was a true survivalist party. Which... that would be some great performance art:
The Donner Party Goes to Burning Man.

There... I'll revisit those thoughts after the burn this year.
