No more Happy Meals for you!

Post by Ugly Dougly » Wed Apr 28, 2010 12:35 pm

I know that NONE of us EVER eats at fast-food restaurants, but...

They don't give catsup away for free anymore. There was a time when they asked whether you wanted catsup or not. Now they don't even ask that, and you have to demand it. Then they ask how many packets you want. I say "three" and they give me FOUR!

The bastards!

By the way, Carl Jr's Santa Fe Chicken Burger with criss-cut fries is fast-food heaven!

Fire Sauce! (I think it's got chipotle peppers)
The ancient Romans used fish sauce like what you find in SE Asian cuisine, and mixed it with grape pulp.

I am trying to wrap my mind around blaming the toys and not the parents. Since it is the toy that makes the decision to purchase itself for the child that eats fast food way to often.
I tell my daughter quite often that no she can't have a happy meal and only gets to eat one once or twice a month. She doesn't throw a fit when she doesn't get one she just proceeds along to the next train of thought.
Ragabadger don't give a shit.

yeah, RGP, you got it, and do it right.

so many people want to blame fast food for being fat.........not wanting to take responsibility for their decisions. No one has to eat there.
and, no one has to take their kids there. It's a pure choice.

Which, is not meant to imply, anyone over weight is that way due to fast food.
But, for the most part, it is a matter of choices.

Ever try to fill up on a happy meal? It's kids' size portions.
You wander in there with your cubs and they're going to fill up with something that's going to keep them from squeezing out the doorway.
Ya, don't blame a piece of plastic. Blame the kids that are saying, "take me to the junk food! Waahhh!"
Like to see Fresh Choice offer toys with their salad bar. And require the kids to run a mile in 6 minutes flat first. ;)

"Happy Meals" (and most food from those large fast-food chains) are packaged poison designed to seduce children with fat and sugar that humans crave, because they were so rare and yet so necessary while we were evolving. A huge industry with lots of political and cultural clout is predicated on feeding people unhealthy food. Sometimes parents are outnumbered. It's not like raising children is so easy that you never have to resort to the expedient, rather than the best.
In my fishy opinion.

It is evident you share the dislike of the quality of fast food. You can go into any grocery store and find equally poor quality food. The only difference is you prepare it yourself. But I do not see the outcry against the child TV dinners with prizes in them or the outrageous carbohydrate loads in breakfast foods.

OMG! what next? no more CRACKER JACKS?????

While we raised our children, now with families of their own, we also raised gardens. We exposed our children to fresh food and where it comes from to develop an appreciation for what real food tastes, looks and smells like. When given the choice of a "happy meal" for fast food or something from the deli across the parking lot, they would make their own decisions. Sometimes for one and sometimes for the other. That is called freedom of choice. To take choices away from children while limiting their exposure to real food inhibits their ability to make healthy decisions based upon knowledge. When choices are removed by statute freedom is diminished.

I'd like to see a drive-thru restaurant chain providing meals from the Paleo Diet. KFC barely suffices, with grilled chicken and cole slaw. It's gotta happen sooner or later.

It's much easier. And I'm a zero to negative population growth person. But I also think our children (in so much as they are part of our society) deserve a childhood where they aren't heavily advertised to and can grow up with their own experiences and opinions rather than what they got off the Fritos Website.

Yeah, we have a food crises everywhere. But starting small is better than sitting there bewailing the facts.

a friend of mine, somewhat older than me, used to get happy meals because she liked the toys, which she used to decorate her office.

methinks a bit of fast food can be both convenient for adults and fun for kids, as well as an inexpensive restaurant excursion.

this is absurd .... and, as trishntek said, a tiny little notch of freedom taken away from us, something that is being whittled away bit by bit. when i was little there were no happy meals, but it was STILL fun to go to macdonalds. eliminating toys will do exactly nothing, i suspect, but remove a bit of fun from life.

but hell, who needs fun? let's all be super healthy and never drink or take drugs or have unprotected sex or do anything that isn't pure and safe and healthy.

By which I meant not having children is much easier than raising them. The other is simply a monstrous statement.
