Art Car Seeks New Camp

Hello All,
I am Sarah Gear, the figure head of the S.S.BattleBorn,named after our states slogan, and the battle for us to create it our first year out.

We are currently seeking a new camp to join with,that is willing to work with us and our art car. The art car is a 72 passenger school bus that has been striped of it seats inside and a large deck built on its roof. The interior is a Victorian/Steampunk theme with a bar dividing the front and rear cabin. Power is supplied for audio and lighting via 2x 1000watt inverters and 2 Batteries tied in via an isolator from alternator.
We run 3 separate audio sources for areas around the bus


Access to the top deck by a set of side mounting stairs or an RV ladder on the rear. Top deck capacity of 40 people with separate audio feed.
Seating is limited to 4 benches, the rest is standing room.


Interior/lower deck is a quieter area with only background music and ambiance lighting. Comfortable seating is around 12. Seating is loose pillows and 2 benches.

Front Cabin is designated as crew only with a couch/bed with both over and under storage. A fridge for bar and crew use. Support and power equipment storage area through out.


We are located in Reno/Carson area and have access to a work area.

What makes this an art car?

The DMV is WAY more lenient with busses because of the large number of participants they serve. They like it when people bring busses to the playa and entertain lotsa people.

We are gathering an impromptu group of Hexayurt builders, hopefully around the 7:30 Plaza where we were with the makn' bacon group last year. Our resident DJ and laserist wingman seek a venue. So exactly what do you need?

Our theme From the last two years was based on my brother camp to whom we were a part of. Their theme camp is pirates. We have angular sides that mount up to form the frame for a boat. this has been covered inthe past with canvas, painted to the theme of the year. For the night time this is back lite with either white or black lite dependent on visibility concerns.

More specifics on "willing to work with us and our art car". Although our original camp has grown into a village and every one loves riding on the bus, very few are willing to put in time or money because of its size and requirements for the playa.

Getting the bus to the playa usually run between 50 - 60 gallon unleaded gasoline(one way).
50 gallons usually last the week making playa runs 4-6 times a day

We are willing to change our theme and help support a great camp.

Aint that the truth. We had a camp of 50ish yet there were 5 of us busting ass to build the camp MV and bring it out.

It's an old rule. 10% of the folks there are making stuff happen, the remaining 90% just want to party.

Forgive me but i have them stored on a computer at my brothers house.
I will upload photos of what it looks like with the canvas on it. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I do like the detail of the la Contessa. A shame what happened it it. But if we do not get any additional help the build will goes as planned, as shown in the legos. I love legos. I already have parts to build most of the support arms and the props. Still deciding on either to have dual mast with sails, upright props or with a set of ballons like a dirigible.

Please let me know what your thoughts are. I am also considering weight and the wind storms on the playa. Every thing will be built so that it can be collapsible for transport, yet strong when assembled.

watch out for 'sails'

wind force calculation is:

The wind pressure, q = .00256V^2 (V is in mph)

example of 50mph (reasonable playa gust assumption, your result may vary) on 100 sq ft (10ft x 10ft)
q = .00256(50^2) = 6.4 psf
the force = 6.4 x 100 = 640 lbs

Saragear, you might want to contact UNR,a guy by the name of Durus.
He is attempting to get a collaboration of students to assist burners with their projects.
Not financially but at least the work part!
