"True Mirror Palace" needs help and advice

Post by jwalter » Mon Jun 14, 2004 8:37 am

I am planning to do an encore presentation of the True Mirror at this years Burning Man. Last year I brought a full length one to the Center Camp, and had an amazing time showing lots of already turned on people their real turned on selves, enlightening them to the magic they carry and laying to waste the lies of the regular mirror. I hope some of you got to see it.

(A True Mirror doesnt reverse images like regular mirrors...within it you see yourself correctly, both physically, but more importantly, personally. Your real self is visible, and its alive!)

My plan is to have a full theme camp this year - the True Mirror Palace. As you walk in, you see all the mirror quotes throughout the years ("to thine own self be true", "o wod some pow'r the giftie gie us/to see oursel'es as others see us", "man in the mirror" lyrics etc. Then in one corner is a massive full length one with four foot panels - the field of view from 15 feet away is almost 30 feet - more than 25 people can simultaneously see themselves in it!. Then in one area will be private booths for meditation (since looking in a mirror is quite a private experience). Another area will have a big comments board - i am always blown away by what people say about the experience.

It should be amazing. I need help and advice putting this together. The mirrors i can handle, but the structure is the issue. I want it to be a strong frame with fabric sides and ceiling - a key is to make the color good, since we look our worst in the bright glare of the sun (unless we are smiling of course :) . Probably strips of red and orange and yellow fabric to filter and color the light a little. The other issue is strength and abilty to withstand the elements ok. Its all very new to me, and i could use any tips and tricks. I'm from NYC, and can take advantage of the big trucks that go down there, so i can get a fair amout of material for the construction.

Also, when it comes time to run the palace, any volunteers that want to play with me are welcome. There's a host of explaining to do so that people can "get it", which is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable - seeing the light of comprehension on peoples faces as they see the difference in themselves (often a very positive difference), is hot stuff for shure.

Thanks in advance...cant wait to get there!!!
