Okay, a year ago I'd never heard the term "Sparkle Pony" and now it's all over the place. Anyone know where it came from and how it went viral?

(OH crap, I just seriously used the term "went viral." I'm so fucking doomed.)

Lol. I thought it worked better for all the East Coast Staggers. Activity on the board will definitely heat up more as the event nears.

I didn't camp there but I met a lot of nice people at Stag last year and they fed me some tasty tacos one night!

sparkle ponies

Post by VeganChoirGirl » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:27 pm

Ok, fish! I do believe there was a sparkle pony corral on playa in 09, a lovely place to send your own camps sparkle pony to receive intensive one on one attention. Basically a sparkle pony is the new name for the person in your camp who arrives with ten thousand costumes and one gallon of water, has endless drama filled melt downs, and needs waaaay too much attention. Voila, sparkle pony. Also! Go stag! To keep this on topic.

Yes, we had much fun "discussing" sparkle pony corral. My question is, is that going in the OED as the first recorded instance of the term? Do any but burners use it?

I went on a No Sparkle Pony camping trip after the burn in 08 so the origination resides before then. Where and how I do not know.

So what about somebody that arrives with 10,000 costumes to wear and share, plenty of water and booze and not a hint of drama?

Mzfit, if I had the means to do it, I wouldn't think twice. One playa veteran I attended regionals with recently said I was "the most damn'd costumed person" he'd ever known.

I think my record is changing 5 times in one day. :P

We love noobs!

Hi all! I'm Patty, and I am the Greeter Shift organizer. I found Stag about a month before the Burn in '08, and thanks to this amazing group of people, my virgin experience was mind blowing! For anyone wanting to know more on our (totally not required) elective activities, here's a list of random things we have done or are planning or are thinking of doing as a camp: Greeter Shift Wed. morning from 8AM till Noon, Tuesday night party (tacos last year, grilled cheese this year) ended up having a dance party in the street with (hundreds?) of passers-by participating, camp meet-n-greet so 100 strangers can get to know each other, talent show, photo booth, Deep Playa Players improv troupe, Costume Colony, random group outings to all points...

As I said, participation isn't required in any of these events, and some of them may not happen every year, but Stag is a great place to find people to help you make your ideas happen or to contribute to someone's project in a 'no pressure' fashion.

I love this camp, I love these people! :D
Hehehe....that dude just called me a LADY!

Dare I ask, what's the general age of staggers, all over the board? And where are the general default-world locations? If you are all over the place, how do you plan? I'm into the idea, looking for a camp to join on my own for my second burn (but in some ways, my first). The thing I am most in need of is a camp shower. You guys got one?

We are a multi-generational, multi-racial group of 90-100 that comes from all over the world, and from all over the country. We are a smattering of everything. Stag seems to have something for everyone. If you are looking for a shower and stag sounds like something you'd enjoy, I suggest going to our site, stagcamp.proboards.com and seeing if anyone would like to start that project up with you! :) We have no dues and no structure. We are a family with some events (totally optional) and lots of love.

Our sight will give you a good idea of what we are about. I brought a pretty nice shower setup in '07, and I am considering building a better one for camp this year, but to be honest, ( ... and I am not trying to be rude here, just honest ) a shower is the wrong thing to be making your judgement call as to the validity of a camp on. Stag holds high the same ideals as the burn in general of radical self reliance, and though we give alot of gifts to each other we never expect them from each other because expectations out of your own responsibility to your own well being on the playa usually just lead to disapointment, and unfounded ill feelings twards your family. Again, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be an asshole, I am just trying to be honest that I have found in my six burns that bringing expectations to the playa will serve you as well as bringing used motor oil.
