Thanks everyone. I found out mom died of pneumonia last Sunday, without pain. She was at Greenwood Convalesant Hospital next to Gridley-Biggs Memorial Hospital in Gridley ,California. She was cremated Friday. My brother Roger is the executor and sole beneficiary, my brother Paul and I were disinherited 2 years ago without our knowledge. Roger was dependant on her , and that is fine with us that he gets the house and bank accounts. I guess my mom decided 2 years ago to settle things so that there would be only peace at her passing. Talk about self-reliance.
She is a real burner now.
I saw an interesting movie recently, "Stranger than Fiction." An author was grieving over a character's death, even though the death was fictional. In the end , she decided that the character would live. She turned the tragedy into a comedy.
Over the last 3,000 years , the masks of drama show the frown of ineffitable death versus the smile of eternal creation and life. Smile or frown, the choice is always yours.
Choose wisely!

I'd met him on a couple of occasions back in my stagehand days, I'm guessing he was about 5'4" probably weighed 100# soaking wet. One of the nicest most sincere "famous" people I'd ever met. He will be missedThecatman wrote:Looking at pictures of him its hard to belive he belted out " MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN."

The Slipknot guy? Yeah, I heard about that.
Not to brush them off, but I had to weigh in on RJDio's death.
I was lucky enough to meet him a couple times. The first time was a real fantasy setting: Santa Cruz civic, 1983. I went crazy and made a big glow-in-the-dark sword out of cardboard, with the DIO logo forming the crosshilt, and a sable antelope foot for the pommel. The hall security wouldn't let it in, so I stashed it in my car and went in without it.
After the show, I went out to the car and said, "Dammit, I'm not gonna go to the trouble to make this and not have them see it!" Just as I was taking it out, the tour bus drove right past my car. I jumped up on the hood, raised the horns and the sword and yelled "DIIIIOOOOOOO — !!!"
And…the bus stopped.
What followed was the road manager calling me up onto the bus to meet the band. The driver pulled over into a space out of the street and I got to talk with the band for about twenty minutes. They were all pretty cool, except maybe Vivian. He stuck his nose up and went back to the bunks. Jimmy Bain sat next to me, getting drunker and drunker and flirting with me. No, I didn't go for it. Finally Jimmy gave up, grabbed a bottle and another girl, and went back to the bunks.
So now it's just me, Ronnie and Vinnie. He said, "Now we can talk!" And we talk for a little bit, were just starting to have fun, and wouldn't you know it? From the bunks — thunka-thunka-thunka-thunka…Ronnie and I both turned red as lobsters and busted up laughing.
Anyway, the bus driver had to drive to Santa Barbara so goodbyes were said. I left the sword with them and Ronnie gifted me with a prismatic Holy Diver badge that he'd been wearing.
I saw them again on the Last In Line tour at the Santa Cruz County fairgrounds, with Whitesnake. That was a great time because I went with a gaggle of friends, one of whom was a professional rock photog. She and the Dios had a falling out not long after that and all the rest of my circle turned vociferously anti-Dio. But I'd had a good experience with him and didn't fall in line with them. Anyway, after the show, Ronnie gave me a big hug and said he was happy to see me again. This time Jimmy wasn't drunk and belligerent but Vivian was still kind of stuck up. Heh. Rock guitar gods…
I kept going to see Dio through the '80s, whenever they came around. Unfortunately I never met Ronnie again and his music was kind of a guilty pleasure for me because of my circle of friends' personal antipathy towards him. I regret that profoundly. Any cancer death I hear about hits me like a knife to the belly but this one is affecting me particularly. I'm listening to "Kill the King" as I write this. The lesson I'm taking away from this is: Stay in touch with my friends, no matter what. I dropped out of Ronnie's life, he dropped out of mine, and I missed out on twenty-six years of friendship with one of the brightest souls I've ever encountered.
They say that when you light a candle, a shadow is cast. The damn thing that keeps happening is people are focusing on the shadow and not bothering to look at the light. Ronnie James Dio has joined the ancestors.

My friend and old coworker Robert O Darden passed on July Fourth. He was a true character. His best friend was another character R.L. Barnhart. They played music together, drank, together and did many things which shall remain unmentioned. R.L. passed about fifteen years ago, shortly after RL's death Bob had a major heart attack. He was clinically dead when he reached the hospital, As he was recovering R.L.'s widow visited him and asked about his near death experience, "When you were down there did you see R.L.?"
