OREGON BIRGINS
I just posted this in the wrong forum I guess but here goes...
My boyfriend (Nik) and I (Claira) will be traveling down from Portland, Oregon to BRC for our first time this year and are looking to hook up with a camp (either from PDX or upon our arrival) as none of our friends from home are attending this year and we have NOOOO idea what to expect! We are both creative types (Nik's an artist and I'm a writer) and in our early 20's. We would be more than happy to contribute to a camp with food, liquor and other "party favors", crazy stories, sweet get-ups, great music, labor, and overall good vibrations. We have all our own supplies covered and we are NOT interested in mooching off of anybody (as I take is sometimes the case from reading some of these threads). We ARE interested in having a SWEEEET Burning Man experience - I've wanted to attend since I was 10 years old and am thrilled that it's gonna be a reality this year - and doing our part to ensure that our fellow Burners have the same. If this sounds like a possible match please let me know. I would also be happy to discuss ride share possibilities.
I can be reached by email at: [email protected]
Peace!

Hey QueenFreak,
Welcome! Yeah, come to BM with no expectations! Best way to approach the event.
If you're looking for a camp to affiliate with, check out the 2010 Theme Camps in the ePlaya Forum Index. No one is going to invite you in unless you sell yourself to them. Many of the camps are already filled up, but some may have room. You gotta do the work.
Recommendation: Coming from Portland try to leave on Saturday, spend one night enroute at Summer Lake Hot Springs near Paisley, OR. Proceed to BRC from there on Sunday. Great way to meet some great folks along the way.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Eagles Nest
Eagles Nest RV park is "before" alturas and south of Klamath Falls. Every year we spend Saturday night there and then leave Sunday night around 3am. Want to caravan ?

Eagles Nest
Just plan to meet up on Saturday evening at Eagles Nest. Go to their website for directions. It's super easy to miss the turn off so pay attention.
On Sunday we go to the caves nearby. Chill Sunday night - get up at 3am for the rest of the drive. Alturas at 4am is amazing !!! It's very exciting with all the pink hair and tutu's. The stores and gas stations are open all night before BM.

Re: Eagles Nest
If you don't need a hook up, you don't need a reservation, and it's only $4 per person. We, probably four vehicles, want to leave early Monday and try to be in at dawn. I drive really slow, sometimes 35 mph through Cedar Pass and the windy part in Nevada. Probably too slow for most people. PM me if you want to anyway, driving a well spaced caravan, so faster traffic can get around us where possible. Sometimes, some places, faster traffic has to bite the bullet for slower traffic. Lack of passing lanes, no place to pass and no place to pull off to let faster traffic by make for some slow going for everyone.Lucian wrote:Eagles Nest RV park is "before" alturas and south of Klamath Falls. Whether from the south or the north, it requires some patience and you will get there.

Hey guys, I am driving down from Portland this year. Last year we stopped in Reno, stayed at a friends house and filled up with water there. I'm not planning on going through Reno this time and was wondering if you could fill water at Eagle's Nest even if you don't camp there. I don't mind paying a small fee. Just don't want to lug water all the way from Portland. Thanks.

water at Eagles Nest
for the past 3 years I leave my water jugs empty and fill them at Eagles Nest. It's super good well water !
They have never charged me. They do ask that people who "hook up" to the electrical service pay a small fee.
Of course you can call or write them for information.
Last year the park was closed to the general public and open to burners only. Probably neccessary with the shirt cocking and what not.
The caves on Sunday are super cool.
