$24.99?!? That's their "low price?" I hope that means you get 8, then it's not a bad price.

You get just 2 of them for $25.00. They are all the same with a color changing LED in them. They are showing various colors on their website just to confuse people.

I would order if I could choose the colors I get and they didn't change color. Now I am on a hunt for such a thing!

I'm almost finished with Playa dress #3 of 6 that I'm making. I also have 3 shirts to sew for the Mr. and need to decorate our coats and my parasol. Oh yeah...and the bike seat padding. But...progress is being made.

Ooh I really like this thread! It might help me not overload those around me by talking to much about Burning Man!

Last night Hottopic.com had an additional 50% off the already 50% off clearance sale items. yippee! Got a sequined fedora, those stacked 6 inch demonia boots for 16 bucks ( regularly 70-120!! ) and a few other trinkets...including this hilariously scarey sleep mask. I totally plan to use it not at BM too.

Ooh and I just moved from Seattle to Montana and the thrift stores here and LOADED with cool shit! I visit them almost daily and find some seriously awesome things. A week ago I found a full length long furry pink robe for a dollar. Adding a furry white hood and some big funky buttons= super playa coat.

Also: got a "real" job as a medical coder, another cool thing about living in the mountains. They will teach you to do a job and pay you, while in Seattle I would have had to go to a tech school to get this job!

I got a plan for sequins to not equal MOOP. If any one has some input or experience, I'd love to hear it.

Here is what the hat looks like
Image

Plan: I have a gloss acrylic varnish paint used to seal acrylic paintings and well and a clear spray paint gloss. I'm thinking the paint on acrylic gloss will work better because I can do many layers and make it thicker then I could with just the spray paint. So I'll probably paint on a layer or varnish over the entire outside of the hat, dry and repeat a few times until its pretty thick. After dried, I'll try and test it by using a blow dryer and seeing how the varnish holds up. Since it's acrylic I think I'll also spray it with some water after it dries and see if that makes it a difference in it's strength.

Also, might as well add: I plan on attaching a chin strap so the hat its self doesn't become moop!

I can attest that method will help keep glitter in place, so sounds like a good plan.

Whaaa?! Glitter you say? I put all my dreams of glittery things out of my head because I was positive it wouldn't work. If you don't mind, what did you glitter? How did you attach it first, like with hot glue then sprinkle and sort of press it into it? Also, does the varnish dull the glitter ( enough that it's not worth it? )

Also I know it's a sensitive subject but feathers. If I glued feathers onto something ( say the cups of a bra) flat so that they were in full contact with the surface ( no fluffy parts, probably using sturdy feathers not like down or something. ) and the varnished it....could I make a super sturdy feather bra? Any thoughts? ( Don't think I could do feather panties/shorts cause I'd be sitting on it/to much contact with it. )

I have the very same hat. Not all sequins become MOOP. This hat in particular has stitching through each sequin, each one appears to have three stay stitches. Very well made. The MOOPy sequins are held on with a simple long chain stitch, one pull and the whole line of sequins fall. I'm not top-coating mine, although it would keep the playa dust down. I might dab some glue spots on the ones on the brim, they seem sturdy enough though.

I have glued, then varnished, glitter. Looks like crap and still MOOPed, ended up not taking the shoes to the playa at all. However, for glittery decorative touches, you can get glitter 3-D fabric paint. Amazing what you can use it on. I use it in my art and paintings as well as on costumes. Get thee to they local craft shop and check out the grandma aisle.

I'd go with the test of glitter and forget about the feathers. It seems that feathers are just too fragile to stay together no matter how well applied. Plus it is in the rules.... No feathers..... Sorry.

I made some boots for a Lady Gaga show. It was layers of glue, glitter, spray adhesive and varnish. There was still glitter that came off, of course.

I would not wear anything with glitter to Burning Man - or sequins, regardless of the craftmanship (having sewn on my fairshare).

If for no other reason to set an example for those unfamiliar with the idea of MOOP extending beyond picking up your trash.

"But I saw somebody else wearing it!"

They don't know my sequins are quadra-reinforced - same for fringey shit.

I won three paper parasols off shopgoodwill.org. I always get compliments on mine (utilitarian for this cracker!), so am going to stash them to give away to people who will appreciate them.

You are entirely correct. I've been dithering about the hat. I love it, but don't often wear hats at night. It would be far too warm for a daytime hat, it is lined. But I have a silver tiger trenchcoat and it would sooo cool at Casbah-blanca night at the Booby Bar! Whine, whine.....

My thought about this is that it would get really hot, cause it wouldn't breath. Unless its just a night hat, in which case the light reflecting off would be kick ass.

On Wednesday we got a hammock off Craigslist. Its freaking AWESOME! Its huge, its strong, its woven with inch wide pieces of patio furniture fabric. Its is this one from Lowes.
Image
that can be found at http://www.lowes.com/pd_221116-1595-SQ- ... -_-hammock
Got it for 100 bucks and its practically new! I'm so excited!
Now I just need another car port cause this hammock will take up the whole kitchen canopy. What was even crazier is we saw a very similar one on a TV show a few nights earlier, WeIrD!

Awesome hammock!

I FINALLY found a mug that is insulated, big, and has a handle AND a lid. It even comes with a straw! And it's a pretty shade of blue that's a little metallic, with no logos on it. Doesn't sound like it would be that hard to do, but I've been looking for months--and this one was only 90 cents at St. Vinnie's. :D

Also started stripping one of our bikes for the Granny bike down to the chrome. It already looks so much better! We took off the old seat, too, but can't get the new one on, because seat mountings appear to have changed since 1965, and we're not all that handy. Hmmm.

it has to be "hosted" somewhere, like "photobucket", and, that place has to accept linking.

It'd be
