Most camps have a dome tent of some form or another. We take a 20' one each year - and it's a lot harder to put up than you think!! That's our most disliked part of getting there. Putting up the dome. :)

I'm SPEWING that I didn't get the Air New Zealand $999 return special to San Fransisco when it first came out. Does anyone know of any other specials around or coming up?

I'm just so excited that there are now direct flights to SF! No more hellish experiences at LAX! Now THAT'S reason for celebration.

How are all your plans going? Do you have your Burning Man ticket? Your plane tickets? Who are you roadtripping with? Share!

Nah, I mean the $999 ones that Air NZ brought out when they started their service to SF direct. I think it may have even only been for Air NZ members.. I got an email from them about it. I'm kicking myself!

Yeah I got that one. I'm not Air NZ member, just went in to flight centre.

The day after I got mine it went to $1599. It's just the rest of the trip I've got to pay for now, anyone need a kidney?

Check out this http://www.comics.com/comics/getfuzzy/a ... 40603.html cartoon that came out of the blue and left me giggling insanely in the cafe yesterday as I read my morning paper .... my cat never does that

On a more serious note - now that the NZ/Oz regional folder has evaporated I suggest we keep this thread awake as a place for Kiwis to connect .... I have a BBQ invite I'll send out when I know when we'll be having it ... I go with a bunch of Aussies and last year we had a 'traditional sausage sizzle' - we'll probably do something similar this year and you're all invited - the idea is to make/bring some holiday food from home (last year we made hokey-pokey ...)

Hey all..its your sleeping Kiwi regional rep...haven't been to this site for awhile but good to see it still alive. I will start looking here regularly now that its less than 100 days to go to BM04. Actually should keep my eye on it all the time as we should be engaging in events all year round. Good to see the Auckland populus getting some gatherings together. Any wellington region people out there (I am in the capital region)? I am doing the burn at Visionz again this year (newyears festival www.visionz.org.nz). Planning a bigger man made of driftwood, and will enlist the help of whoever can help out. The locals in Golden Bay (nice hippie area in the top of the South Island) have really enbraced the Burning Man concept after the inaugural kiwi burn, and they will be helping me out to make it a bigger build up to the burn. I also need all of you to start planning to be at Visionz at New Years. We had 300 odd people at the procession and burn last time...lets do better.

Whos going to Bm04? I am off over there for work in early August, and back late Sept. Whoo hoo!! Lets keep in touch here and also email me at [email protected], regardless of whether or not you are going. I want to hear from you.

Wellington/Manawatu region folk.and further...would any of you like to have a little burn on the beach along the Kapiti Coast? Can arrange for the solstice..its not too late. Let me know..

BM04

Post by Yonder Burn » Tue Jun 15, 2004 8:32 pm

Hi Taniwha - good to see you on again. Will you be at Kidsville this year? We will. Lewis is now 4 and he will be very interactive with all the kids.
Are you still thinking of moving back to NZ.

YOu know this web area has got so big that I may have to create an official New Zealand one.

No - we'll do what we usually do which is camp with our mostly Aussie friends somewhere out around 3 oclock (we were just passing thru kidsville looking for friends for our kids when we met you last time).

I agree about the new ePlaya layout - I think that the older setup was more usefull for small groups that are more geographically diverse (like us Kiwis ...) it's much easier for new people to find a NZ area rather than search for particular postings

Airfares and MORE!

Post by kyla » Thu Jul 01, 2004 6:11 pm

Hey guys,

To anyone who doesn't have air tickets yet, Qantas brought out a special today for NZD1343.00 return to SFO!! Considering I booked tickets with Air NZ yesterday for NZD1999.00 return, that's a BARGAIN.

And obviously yes, I'm off again this year. Shall we organise a meetup on the playa? Where is everyone camping?

Bring on August.

Love Kyles

We'll be at Moonbase as we always have (probably somewhere out around 3:00/jupiter if it's like previous years) ... we're of course already here. Normally I'd offer crash space to anyone who needs it - but we've already sold our house and packed most of our stuff - if anyone gets stuck or needs some local US knowledge give me a call at (510)290-7172 or mail me at [email protected].

Perhaps having an agreed upon place to leave messages - a 'kiwis' card in the connections card catalog at center camp, or maybe claiming a spot on the center camp message board

If people think a kiwi-burners mailing list makes sense I'll happily host one on my mail server.

I was up on the playa 2 weeks ago - the surface seems very much like last year, maybe a little dustier, I'll be back in another 3 - why? well Yonder knows http://www.taniwha.com/br.jpg .... it was at a launch we first met :-) (well that photo is a bit over the top ..... but we http://www.aeropac.org have been going to the playa for years).

Well I'll be at Irrational Geographic again. They are usually marked on the BM map. Normally I would say look out for our billboards! But we're not making them this year :(

I think leaving messages at centre camp sounds great.. although it hasn't always worked for me! You know what I mean :) I have gone a whole week at BM without bumping into anyone I wanted to!

I'll be in San Fran from August 20th'ish until late September. Would love to visit some friends in New York but we'll see how it goes. You all sound like you have fantastic holidays planned!!

Take care everyone, and see you on the playa!

Post by Yonder Burn » Tue Jul 06, 2004 4:39 am

Hi again - lovely to read of all the plans developing. I promise to get an email list sorted out v soon. Its been a busy time (thats everyones excuse these days). I'll also try to arrange a time and place at BM for a get together of kiwis.

Have been seeing the odd burner through Wellington. Fune xcuse for some good times with like-minded folk.

Hope you all have the Visionz burn in the back of your minds for New Years. They still have the kiwiburn article on the www.burningman.com homepage.

More soon

Hello Everyone,

I'm an expat American currently residing in Auckland. It's so heartening to see the spirit of "home" here in NZ. This upcoming burn will be my 7th Burn and I would enjoy meeting others from this part of the world that share the spirit. I lucked out, AirNZ now has a direct flight to SFO and I managed to get a promo airfare. I totally admire those of you who make the journey.

Cheers

Ya Kiwis

Post by Samo » Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:10 pm

Lets do it up in Auckland on the 17th - I have to catch a flight early sun am, so I was planning on being up all night anyway! Chris - Pinkies is legendary - do yourself a favor and be sure to try to find it (not always an easy thing to do). Kyla - sorry we missed you last time - lets be sure to get together this time around. Yonder - thanks for the 'tour de debauchery' and see ya at Red Loft or Jumbo's in LA LA Land. And to Queenstown Mike - I'm heading your way - fire up the flame throwers and hide the animals!

PS: I'll probably be camping in the DPW Ghetto this year, so y'all be sure to find me for a bit of insanity on the Chaos Bar Car!

Good Times

People are starting to leave from the sounds of things - so let me make a suggestion (since I want invite all of you to a BBQ/party - just don't know when, or where just yet, but probably Thursday duskish) - lets create a card in the Playa Info card catalog under K for "Kiws!" (or did they replace all that with an online search thingy - I wasn't paying as much attention last year) and have everyone add their names, locations, invites etc there - first one there who doesn't find a card should create one - sound like a plan?

Hi there everyone. The party at Taniwhas sounds like a plan, and the K place at the noticeboard for annnouncements. You guys can easily find me at Kidsville (sorry I am not at a more exciting camp...have a four year old, boy you know). I am off to Nth America on 1 Aug for work, and will be there until late Sept. SAMO - assume we are still on for that week of Aug 9 to get together in LA? I will email you the week before.

Am going to get all your emails together to make up an email list for Visionz and other NZburner activities. Please forward your email addresses to me at [email protected] if you haven't already emailed me inthe last two months.

Psyched about the short time 'till the playa!!!!

Ps Taniwha..thursday night could be a busy one so you might want to rethink that one. I know that the E-playa meet and greet is on at duskish that night, and the night that follows is a biggie. However, I also know that Weds is the regionals cabaret (that only effects me though, so not a good reason to cancel). Up to you, but maybe Friday night after about 7pm would work.

Actually I wasn't suggesting the noticeboard - it's always overflowing - I was thinking about the playa-info directory in cenjter camp (right by the notice board) - past years this has simply been an alphabetical card catalog - you go and add yourself undet your firat/last/playa name for your friends to find - last year though I think they moved it a bit more on-line so it may not wok the same as an index card in a drawer - if so we might each have to make a 'Kiwis!' entry of our own - or maybe they'll let us make an entry that others can add to - if you're the first one ther and get to make the first entry ask whoever's running the show if you can make a 'public' entry that can be changed
Yonder Burn wrote:Psyched about the short time 'till the playa!!!!
I wish it was longer too many things to do and so little time :-( people to say good bye to, places to go for one last time, tickets to book - in some sense BM this year will be for us the ultimate cutting loose - something that was easy heading out in the world at 20 but 20 years later seems much much harder

The Thursday (assuming it's that day) BBQ/coctail hour thing is rather out of my control - we've done this for several years now -lots of people expect it - if you can wander by - otherwise I'm sure we'll all find a way to meet up
